No, we don't want to override KOMA's default settings, which are well

But in the file, you have makeindex, not texindy.

I see this in your settings:

-s german.ist -t MWE_Index.ilg -o MWE_Index.idx

of these, german.ist does not exist at least on my system, and "-o
MWE_Index.idx" looks superfluous.

Removing these two arguments, i.e. reducing it all to
-t MWE_Index.ilg

gives me the index in output.

Not so strange. When the cursor is before the inset, the inset is "at
point" of (i.e., connected to) the cursor. So in the 2.3 case, with
this cursor position, LyX passes the table changes to the wrong inset
(math). At least this would be my ad-hoc analysis.

Thanks. This works if you put the cursor after the math inset, and it
works also before in LyX 2.4, so it seems to have been fixed for the

There are two possible behaviors you might refer to:

1. Entering table settings via main menu (Edit > Table Settings...) is
possible in LyX 2.3 but changes are not applied. This is a bug that
(seems to be) fixed in LyX 2.4.

2. The context menu doesn't show the respective items. This not a
feature but it is somewhat expected as long as the cursor is in the
math inset. You'll see the same with any other inset (e.g., note).
If you put it before or after the math inset (in that same cell) it
works. Procedure 1 does exactly that, BTW. It puts the cursor out of
the math inset before the dialog is opened (but in LyX 2.3, some update
is then missing).

Re: Regression: output from LyX 2.4.0 RC3 won't compile (worked with LyX 2.3.7)

2024-03-02 Thread Jürgen Spitzmüller
Adrian,

the document does not compile with LyX 2.3 either. It is a problem in
the document that is easily fixed:

Just before the very last section ("Copyright Glosar Mind-Control"),
there is a pagebreak. The problem is that this pagebreak is in the same
paragraph than the section, which causes the error. LyX should actually
prevent you from entering a page break here, this is a bug.

Solution:

* hit enter after the pagebreak
* set the style of the paragraph the page style is in to "Standard"

Hope this helps,
Jürgen

The loading order has not been changed, and it also doesn't matter (as
a view into refstyle.sty reveals). The warning is also in LyX 2.3.x,
although it is less prominent (the heightening of prominence was done
in purpose for 2.4, since you will want to be informed about broken
references).

This is by design as well. This definition gets only active in case
\eqref is undefined, hence \providecommand.

> \AtBeginDocument{\DeclareRobustCommand{\eqref}[1]{\textup{\tagform@{\
> ref{eq:#1} (as in amsmath), the LaTeX file ‘testref_robust.tex’
> compiles without problems.

Yes, but this is not the right fix as it will break the refstyle
integration with equation references.

The problem here is that refstyle attempts to overwrite and integrate
amsmath's \eqref definition into its own \eqref definition. This does
not work anymore since \eqref has been made robust in the 2022-06-01
release of amsmath [1], and the command copying and redefinition
refstyle used (via \let) does not work with robust commands.
\NewCommandCopy needs to be used instead of \let.

Ultimately, this needs to be fixed in refstyle. I reported this to the
maintainer in March 2023 and even sent a patch [2] but never got a
response. It seems the package is factually unmaintained.

We can check for the respective amsmath version and patch into refstyle
ourselves in LyX. Long term, I think we should abandon refstyle and go
for another package (cleveref or zref-clever).

Best,
Jürgen

So either omit spaces or use prettyref instead of refstyle (Document >

This is since "InsetLayout Box" (in stcinsetc.inc) sets the label color
to "foreground" (the text color), which is not a good idea in dark
mode. Setting it to static "black" fixes the issue. I'll do this in

In LyX 2.3, you will have to position the label in the paragraph below

I'm not sure. We don't advertise that we query only certain elements in
the outliner, but the listed content. And in branch case, (parts of)
the branch text is included to that.

We could add a feature to only include certain parts in filtering, but

No.

Alternatively to redefining \maketitle, you could use the
TitleLaTeXName layout tag and set it to a dummy command. E.g., in
Document > Local Layout:

TitleLatexName relax

would output \relax instead of \maketitle, which is equivalent of
outputting nothing.

With KOMA script, just use in preamble

\RedeclareSectionCommand[tocnumwidth=4em]{section}

Change the 4em value to whatever you see fit.

LatexParam (which is a kludge anyway) always comes last, you cannot
change that. Use a proper argument for the mandatory argument as well.
BTW there is also no need for the right delim, as this is "]" by
default (if Mandatory is not changed):

Style myenv
LatexType Environment
LatexName myenv
Argument 1
LabelString"foo"
Mandatory1
EndArgument
Argument 2
LabelString"entry 1"
AutoInsert1
LeftDelim "["
EndArgument

LyX autoloads the package if you use a construct that requires this
package (e.g., \unitfrac, \unitfracthree, \nicefrac).

You can prevent autoloading by entering to Document > Settings > Local

Provides units 1

But if you now have a LaTeX macro which requires this package (and is
not covered by siunitx), you'll get an "undefined control sequence"
error.

Note that this only covers the problem (and potentially causes others).
The real problem is in refstyle.cfg which is incompatible with recent
AMS maths due to the robustification of commands such as \eqref.

See https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/675145

Seems like the refstyle author has been made aware of the problem, but
it is unknown whether he is still willing to take care of the package.

If no solution on the package side appears on the horizon, a workaround
in LyX would be to add

\DeclareRobustCommand\eqref{\relax}
\let\eqref\relax

before refstyle is being loaded (this would need to be done in the LyX
code and with package version check, and it is really something we'd
like to avoid as it basically disables refstyle's support for AMS math.

These are backup files. They are done and updated (by default) each
time you safe the current document.

No, they are meant as a permanent backup, should your original file get
corrupted or lost.

In order to open them with LyX, you probably need to remove the
trailing tilde.

(The trailing tilde is an established marker of backup files, coming
from the Emacs text editor)

In Tools > Preferences > Look & Feel > Document Handling, you can
disable "Backup original documents when saving" if you really do not

In Tools > Preferences > Paths, you can setup a "Backup directory"

With the pdfpc latex package [1], you can insert notes to latex
directly via \pdfpcnote (never tried it myself). The package
documentation also states that:

"If you prefer using full-featured beamer notes rendered alongside the
presentation (\setbeameroption{show notes on second screen}), the
pdfpc package will autodetect it, so using the --notes command-line
option is unnecessary. To override the autodetection, use the
notesposition option, accepting the same values
(right/left/top/bottom/none)."

LaTeX needs to find it, so it needs to be in a path known to LaTeX.
If "kpsewhich pdfcomment.sty" returns a path, then this is the case. If

> If you use or are familiar with the Acknowledgment theorem type: what

Clarification comes from AMS technical support (thanks Pavel for
approaching them):

An "Acknowledgment" theorem type is not implemented in the amsthm
package. The confusion probably comes from an entry in the amsthm
documentation, amsthdoc.pdf, where "Acknowledgment" is listed as a
theorem heading that's normally associated with the Remark style.
Admittedly, this should not have been included in the documentation,
but the person who originally put it there was thinking of case (a). In
our publications, we treat these types of Acknowledgments as an
unnumbered section appearing at the end of the article, so we do not
recommend doing this as a theorem type. We will probably remove this
from the next version of the documentation.

Thanks,
Brian Bartling

So we shouldn't have implemented this theorem type at all, but now that
we have it, we will treat its semantics as proposed by Brian.

[RFC] Acknowledgment theorem type

2023-02-01 Thread Jürgen Spitzmüller
Dear all,

As you might know, LyX features a theorem type "Acknowledgment" via the
"AMS extended" theorems modules. This is a question for people using
this.

The issue appeared on the developers list that none of us is actually
sure about the function of this theorem type. This is a problem with
regard to translation into other languages, as "acknowledgment" can
mean different things, among them

(a) expressing gratefulness (credits, as in the "Acknowledgment"
section of books or articles),
(b) expressing respect ("In acknowledgment of his special merits he was
appointed as honorary conductor of the orchestra"),
(c) the act or fact of accepting the truth or recognizing the existence
of something ("acknowledgment of a mistake"),
(d) a confirmation ("I have received no acknowledgment")

Depending on the meaning, the term needs to be translated differently
to some languages. Currently, it is translated in the same way than the
Acknowledgment sections in articles (meaning [a]), and we have serious
doubts whether this is appropriate.

If you use or are familiar with the Acknowledgment theorem type: what
are its general purposes, or how do you use it?

Thanks,

You need to use a "dark" Qt style. I do not use Windows myself, but
according to the web, it seems not as straightforward than on Linux and

That's correct, but we also managed to come somewhat back into swing

If you only want a main heading "Bibliography" in the toc, simply add

For the code you showed, you need to insert 5 Bib(la)TeX Bibliography
insets, and add the options you want for each \printbibliography to the
respective inset. This should work.

If it doesn't, please send a complete minimal example file of the

Or, with a reasonably new LaTeX release, use

\AddToHook{package/biblatex/after}{
...

which will issue the code as soon as biblatex has been loaded.

Sure. I think these academic stylesheets (probably rightly) have users
in mind who either use full or no space, not thin space (and who do not
even know this exists). Bringhurst addresses typographers.

Alas, the bug tracker is currently broken and the persons who can fix

You prevent LyX from loading this package also. This reduces unnesseary
code and sometimes also package options clashes.

Remove this, not needed (and this causes the clash you get).

Also select a numeric citation style such as "numeric" (and the matching
bibliography style).

Yes, geometry is a special case. It is only auto-loaded if "default
margins" in Document>Settings is unchecked.

No. It just checks on Tools > Reconfigure whether this package is
installed. If not, you will be informed about that if you want to use
the module.
I think on Win it used to also automatically install the package if
missing.

Requires works for the packages that are hardcoded in LyX. geometry is
among them.

It is read by Tools > Reconfigure. If the package in question is not
there, the user will be informed about that in the document dialog.

I see in the source preview of this manual:

Note that mhchem is loaded automatically. Did you only look in the user

I think the problem is not related to beamer. The eulervm package
assumes classic (pdf)latex, not lua- or xelatex.
