Hi all,
I googled this thing from here to eternity, and didn't find anything
helpful. This happened right after I replaced Ubuntu 11.10 with Xubuntu
12.10. This book, whose document class is based on Memoir, got four
error messages like this:

that much trouble adapting to three hyphens between clauses in LyX, and
two when authoring HTML. I mean, if we were dumb, we'd be using MSWor

What you do is make a copy of the document, then start deleting lots of
stuff until you're left with ONLY the things needed to make the symptom
occur. The root cause will become obvious either in the process of
deleting, or when you've pared it down to the minimum.

I use dia for diagrams (kind of what Windows guys use Visio for),
Inkscape for vector drawing, and Gimp for raster drawing.
dia exports to .png, which can import directly into LyX.

Gimp can write just about any kind of raster format.
