The best way to avoid a needless white gap under wrap floats is to use
the 'line span' setting in the wrap float settings. This counts only real
lines, no blank lines and a header is also 1 line.

s not centered in the Lyx view, but it is in the output. In fact I
changed the html2latex utility on my computer (more precisely the latex.pm
script) to produce float figures and inserted this code in the generated TeX
code. It is slightly changed by the TeX -> Lyx converter and gives centered
L
'\textdegree' alone seems not visible in the output. In some
places '\mbox{°}' is accepted, where the degree symbol is internally written
as \textdegree. It seems in fact that it is the 'lyxmathsym{}' which is not
understood in producing the output.

It' s indeed a bit strange that float figures are not automatically centered.
You may do it yourself by entering in an ERT frame '\begin{center}' before
and '\end{center}' after the code for the picture. That's the way I solved
the problem.

I installed the Dutch package for ispell, but Lyx complained "Could not find
dutch.hash". In looking in the ispell directory, I found a nederlands.hash
and nederlands.aff . I added symbolic links dutch.hash and dutch.aff and now
everything works fine!

just nothing. In this case you have for a file on your machine
already 'file:///' !
- then follows the location on the server, which is a bit OS dependent ...
