Nonsense there are RPM packages for RedHat and I guess you can install

This way you will loose all users, one by one.

You mean all our users who used the OLD fax facility and who are not
dynamic enough to spend 10secs to install a program from a RPM package!

I recommended LyX for invoicing and faxing to several folks. They all
upgraded ( for their own reasons) and ask me what to do. They are
lawyers etc, and they can't build, tweak etc. I told them : Switch to
 StarOffice.

I recommend OpenOffice it is REALLY feature complete VERY fast, has a
wonderful print engine, just it segfaults from time to time and to input
some text you need quite some time as the screen/redraw seems a bit slow.

So, what should we do ??

You gave yourself an answer above didn't you!

If we in MySQL would do such nonsense as you do with LyX, we would be
 without users.

What you could do 5 years ago with MySQL, you can do today. Are there
new and better ways today ?? Yes, but those new features do not kill
 old features. None.

Well I have a big smile now on my face, we're using MySQL and it seems
it gets slower and slower at every release, especially joins with range
values takes forever to complete on a medium/large sized database, I don't
really call this good behavior, but We probably see that from a different
perspective that you REALLY BRAVE mysql developers!

You, LyX developers, are all very irresponsible people, and if you
continue that way, LyX will have not much of the future, although it
is a best word processor around.

It's no word processor it's a document processor, but thanks for the
compliment!

If you make a single change in some other feature, like HTML
generation, that would require another 3 hours of my work, I will
 erase LyX.

So, what should I do ??

Seems strange to me but ok you could have a landscape paper and then

Ctrl-Return now is ONLY permited in columns with fixed lenght (as it is in

Would it help to put a fixed width for the columns? If you don't want that
you should still be able to edit all of it as the text should scroll to the

the actual cvs version (I know this is of not much help to you).

So the ONLY possible solution for you is to put a fixed with to the columns!

 PRE-/POSTPROCESSOR COMMANDS

I'm running ligatex as a preprocessor for fine-tuning ligatures when

Woulndn't it work to make a shell-skript which calls first ligatex and then

And define this new command as latex command in the configuration files?

I do this using a 2 column tabular. In 1.1.6 this should be easily possible as
there you have full paragraph support inside a cell. Oviously you should make
a backup of your documents before doing this as the fileformat of 1.1.6 tabulars
is completely different from versions before and you will not be able to
go back to 1.1.5 if you find that 1.1.6 is not good enough for you!!!)

there you have full paragraph support inside a cell. Oviously you should make
a backup of your documents before doing this as the fileformat of 1.1.6 tabulars
is completely different from versions before and you will not be able to
go back to 1.1.5 if you find that 1.1.6 is not good enough for you!!!)

Thanks for the good explanation. I did understand you wrong before.
I thought you said that in multicolumns one shouldn't use || at all.

The above should be quite easy to correct. I'll have a look and see if
I can correct this also in 1.1.6.

Well this is probably because you (Frank) want a caption for the longtable.

I hope to resove this problem cleaner in the upcoming 1.2.0 version, so
the version after 1.1.6 (in a few month ;).

For Herbert: Can you point me how to produce multipage floats, IMO this
could be interesting as feature for LyX.

Well another working solution would be to write the formula in a minimal
LaTeX document, latex and dvips'ing it and include the produced eps file,
as figure in the docbook code!
