Re: EPUB converter

2022-03-04 Thread Emile Lunardon via lyx-users
Thank you for this information. I will be very interested to see the result
of this tool in action.
Personally I use LyX to produce pdf documents optimised for the screen
sizes of Kindle "paper white, voyage" and Kobo e-readers. This of course
leads to documents with much larger memory sizes than epub and equivalent
formats, but the memory capacity of the e-readers is now very comfortable
(> 8 GB) to cope with it very well. I appreciate the fact that I can play
with font sizes, put local tables of contents (through code complements in
LaTeX) to Parts, Chapters, Sections and navigate between these levels by
simply pressing on the top and bottom of the pages.
The only regret I have is that LaTex does not offer a Book of Books type of
document format so that several volumes can coexist naturally and navigate
between them by cross-referencing! But with the Book Koma-Script format and
by making the Parts play the role of Books, there are still enough levels
of structuring to achieve one's goals.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] LyX 2.3.4.2 'Emergency' Release

2020-02-12 Thread emile lunardon
I compiled the new version of LyX 2.3.4.2. The crash while trying to use
the Ø symbol has disappeared. However, there is still an anomaly: if after
writing this symbol, you try to write a second one next to it, nothing
happens (this also happens with the Å symbol which is to the left of Ø on
the presentation palette). It seems to me that the cursor stays inside the
character instead of being positioned ready to receive a new character as
it happens with most symbols.

I don't think it's an urgent bug to fix since by moving the cursor with the
mouse you get the ability to insert a new character.

Bug hunting is a never ending exercise!

Bug in Lyx 1.3.4 ?

2020-02-04 Thread emile lunardon
When I try to enter, under LyX 1.3.4 (Linux), one of the two Math symbols
shown in the attached file (written with LyX 1.3.3), there is a crash of
LyX 1.3.4 with the attached messages.

Can someone confirm this strange phenomena ?

I don't remember seeing the possibility to install LyX without LaTeX (I'll

this case, I would be more than happy to agree with your analysis.

Re: Important poll: would this dialog be confusing?

2018-03-18 Thread emile lunardon
Miktex 2.9 or later is mandatory to compile LyX document but if LyX is used
to simply generate LyX document (or LaTeX document) without compiling it,
we should not forbid this use. So I would suggest to install LyX in all
cases and if need be, to give the choice to the user either to upgrade
himself properly Miktex (followed by a reconfiguration of LyX) or to let
the LyX installer perform this Miktex upgrade.

This time, the usual way of repairing Miktex by an upgrade didn't work:
"Sorry, but something went wrong : Invalid argument: path= "C:\Program

To test this new installation program, I let the Miktex update run. I have
no idea what has been updated, but what's for sure is that the compilations
with LyX don't work anymore now ! (messsage : pdflatex program ended with
error).
I did not disable the "Windows defender" antivirus for this installation,
but it was found in a previous trial that this did not affect the problem.

Re: Windows users: can you test the 2.3.0 installer?

2018-03-03 Thread Emile Lunardon
It's an old habit that probably goes back to the first versions of LyX on
Windows (I used to work with LyX on Cygwin before). It seems to me that the
bundle had been introduced so as not to have to worry about installing, at
the good version, a whole lot of accessory software like the image
converter, python, dictionaries etc., as well as a minimal version of LaTeX
(which is however insufficient in some cases).

I managed to have a successfull installation with the installer version of
LyX2.3, keeping the anti-virus «Windows Defender» active. So the problem is
well linked to the bundle and its interaction with Miktex 2.9.

Re: Windows users: can you test the 2.3.0 installer?

2018-03-01 Thread Emile Lunardon
I tried again to install LyX2.3 on my PC running on WINDOWS 8.1. This time
as you have suggested, I have disabled the virus scanner (windows defender)
and installed only for the current user.
The result is identical to the first installation attempt : neither LyX2.3
nor LyX2.2.3 document compilation works due to problem with Miktex 2.9
(wrong termination of pdflalex, missing classes, spaces in directory paths).
Then I have performed a package maintenance of Miktex (one new package
downloaded) and I have reconfigured both LyX2.3 and LyX2.2.3. RESULT : both
LyX versions manage to compile documents now.

CONCLUSION
The installation of LyX2.3 seems to corrupt the Miktex configuration. This
is not due to an interaction with the anti-virus (disabled). Hopefully an
upgrade of Miktex (if there is a new package to install) repairs Miktex 2.9
and allows LyX to work again.

Re: Windows users: can you test the 2.3.0 installer?

2018-02-27 Thread Emile Lunardon
I had a big problem with the use of the new LyX 2.3 bundle.

The installation by itself went fine, side by side with the current LyX
2.2.3 version, using my existing local Miktex 2.9 distribution. But the
compilation with LyX 2.3 of any document failed with a report of a problem
on pdflatex.exe (something like missing program). I tried to reconfigure
LyX 2.3 but the problem remained.
I then switched to LyX 2.2.3 and faced the same problem with in addition
the reported missing of some document classes. It seemed that the Miktex
configuration was corrupted.

I then uninstalled LyX 2.3 and had to upgrade/maintain the Miktex
configuration with its package manager to recover a working LyX 2.2.3.

So there is certainly a problem with the way LyX 2.3 interacts with Miktex.
I had no problem of this kind with the LyX2.3RC 1 & 2.

LyX for Windows offers incomplete support for non-TeX fonts. This is the
case, for example, of the Gyre Schola font, which although proposed by
Miktex 2.9 , is unknown to LyX 2.3 RC2 (this is not the case of LyX 2.3
compiled under Linux Ubuntu 16.04).

Bug LyX 2.3 RC1 : "Rechercher et Remplacer élaborée"

2017-12-18 Thread Emile Lunardon
Welcome to this new version 2.3 of Lyx !

I noticed an improvement in the functioning of the function "Search and
Replace elaborated". However, I came across what seems to me to be clearly
a bug:

When I search for LaTeX inserts with {} inside to eliminate them (replaces
them with the empty string), the characters[ and] of normal LyX text are
also eliminated, but not those present in LaTeX inserts.

LyX 2.2.1 doesn't work on WINDOWS 8.1

2016-07-26 Thread emile lunardon
I have updated LyX2.2.0 to 2.2.1 on my PC under Windows 8.1.
Now it is impossible to launch LyX. The following error message is returned
:

lyx.exe - Erreur d'application
l'application n'a pas réussi à démarrer correctement (0xc07b). Cliquez
sur Ok pour fermer l'application.

I have also updated LyX on an other PC under Linux. LyX2.2.1 works in a
similar way to LyX 2.2.0.

*I want to signal a problem affecting both Lyx 2.2.0 and 2.2.1:*

I have a very big document (~100 Mo Pdf mainly of text with ~ 15000 pages)
which was originally written with LyX 2.1 .
It takes more than *one hour* to open it with LyX2.2.0/2.2.1 and only a few
minutes with LyX 2.1.5.
Once open it is possible to work as usual on the document but the amount of
time necessary to open it preclude any operationnal use of LyX 2.2.0/2.2.1

Regular expressions for search & replace tool.

2016-04-10 Thread emile lunardon
The extended search & replace tool supports regular expressions and access
to sub-expressions for the search. When will the access to sub-expressions
be available for the replace tool ?

   Thanks for the report.

Can you please be more specific. 2.1.2 compared to what? 2.1.1?
 2.0.8.1?
What is a LaTeX insert? Do you mean an ERT box? Can you give specific
instructions for how to reproduce? e.g. 1. Go to Insert TeX Code. 2.
Write $\alpha$ in the ERT. 3. Select the box and copy it. 4... paste
   it (somewhere specific?)

Sent to me from the user:

The phénomena is observed with the recent LyX 2.1.2 compared to LyX
  2.0.8.1 on Windows .

The Latex insert is obtained by the command Ctrl+L and filled with some
 text.

The copy and paste of the Latex insert is made in the usual way with a
  mouse selection followed by Ctrl+V.

  Thanks, Emile.

FWIW, I tried that on Linux Debian and I couldn't observe what Emile
describes. The ERT box is copied and pasted in the same condition (open
or closed) as it was originally. Windows issue?

You are right, the same phenomena occurs on Windows with Math inserts !

I've seen similar strange behavior with copy/paste in LyX on Windows 7:
Copy-pasting insets inserts only the inner text, copy-pasting math would
paste the latex commands, etc. It seems to happen when I restart from
hibernation mode, but I never could narrow it down further to

but I can't remember if it happened even before.
