iBooks definitely will read unprotected epubs, both those that started life
that way and those from other sources than Apple which have had their drm
stripped via the Caliber app. I'm reading an epub on my iPad just now that
originated from a source other than the iBook store.

Yes, the process is to get the book on to the iPad via itunes after the drm has
been stripped by Caliber. So you move the book out of the caliber library in to
iTunes and then synch it up on to the i-device from iTunes. Or if your book is
drm-free to start with, you could just copy it from
