2017-08-08 Thread John Robinson
I don’t blame you, they are great. I have many of them in our home and they
aren’t near as nice as the ones they offer today…none of mine are even 4k as I
didn’t have a sound system to go with the 4k..now Bose has come out with a much
better Theater system but so far they are not allowing a trade-in on the older
systems as they have always done in the past….I’ll wait until the new wears off
and they come to their senses.

Re: [MacGroup] ISP advice

2017-08-08 Thread John Robinson
Harry, by the time that happens there will be a glass highly superior to OLED
and the fad will be to the newer technology….indeed maybe our TV will be simply
Augmented TV that we will open inside the bathroom, the passenger side of the
car, hundreds of people on the subway each watching a different TV with NO
glass…..

if you watched the video of AR that I sent a few days ago it’s obviously going
to be a different world we live in VERY shortly…with the AR Kit Apple has given
to developers our Apps are REALLY going to change, and quickly.

Apple is instantly going to become the most populous AR platform on the
planet….in the video the desktop was in “thin air”, the monitors had been
removed, everyone opened an AR desktop, had several programs open at once, all
spread around them in thin air…the “key” is going to be the “glasses” If Apple
can come up with glasses as unobtrusive as wearing earbuds…..it will become a
new world…

Every so often Rush Limbaugh will get off on Apple, a company he loves. I
heard him go on a tear this past week, talking about all the forthcoming
technologies they are working on…and IF indeed Apple (which is supposedly
waiting on FDA approval) has a watch that will test blood glucose….as he said,
whomever accomplishes this….well, they will be able to buy anything they
want….Apple stock will double….

Much to be excited about….

John

Biggest problem with oled is low yield on production so high prices and low
output. The reason Apple is making a iPhone pro this year. They could not get

Re: [MacGroup] ISP advice

2017-08-07 Thread R. D. Preston
No direct ISP advice to recommend other than just use internet only (no bundled
services), so perhaps you could go with some option of SlingTV
(https://www.sling.com, basic pkg. is $20 mo.) for non-local programs plus a
home digital antenna for local programs (maybe $25), and use a simple cable
toggle switch to go back-and-forth between them, unless you like switching
cables by hand all the time.

Re: [MacGroup] ISP advice

2017-08-07 Thread Tanya
Thanks Michael,
Always good to have more information.
p.s. The reason I got rid of my cable was they came to my home to service and
said hey your box for your tv is 12 years old. I said it works fine. While
working in my backyard they changed it anyway. I then was no longer able to
receive on demand and my bill went up from $32.00 to $42.00 for basic and
received less.
This is why I cut my cable to went to Amazon.

There is a PBS app for apple tv, probably for the amazon fire as well. You have
to make a at least $60 donation to KET to get access to the shows under the
“Passport” designation. Then you can watch most any of the Masterpiece shows.

Cut the cable and put an antenna on your roof, and get subscriptions to a
couple of services. I use Amazon Prime and get HBO Now to watch Game of Thrones
and whatever I can squeeze in during the time Thrones is playing. I wish we
still had video stores to watch older movies. RedBox only has newer ones.

[MacGroup] ISP advice

2017-08-06 Thread ANDREW ARNOLD
I know the group has discussed services many times, any current recommendations
for ISPs, given all the tricks Spectrum is now playing? I rec’d a letter this
week indicating I would need Receivers for my TVs, which would be free for 24
months (no indication how much afterward). They also informed me they are
taking away about 20 channels from my very basic cable TV package. I don’t
watch much TV, but still feel violated.

So 3-4 years ago I was paying $89/mo for basic phone, basic cable, and a lower
tier Internet speed. Now I am paying $140/mo for the same package! I hate the
lack of competition these near monopoly cable operators have.

Is anyone else upset about these new changes and have current recommendations?

Thank you
Andy
