Its amazing how Apple can put out information in several places that
do not sync. Of course, its a large company with many heads that do not
talk to one another.
Here is a link that specifically relates to El Capitan which I
should have shared sooner.
Use this article to check which versions of Windows will run on which Mac
models, and, where available, the download links to the software:

As a rule, BootCamp Assistant always does the right thing, fetching the latest
drivers and giving you the choice
Hi,
Thanks first of all for replying.
I've failed miserable to install Windows 7 under bootcamp in El Capitan. I
think that part of the problem is Bootcamp in El Capitan which seems to work
differently to all the descriptions I have seen here on the list and on Apple's
pages. When I start

BootCamp Assistant shows different checkboxes depending on whether or not your
Mac has a built-in (or formerly had a built-in) optical drive. If you have,
you don’t get the chance to use an ISO. Typically USB boot (from MBR) is not
supported on these models, so you will need the optical
Hi Sabahattin,
Thanks for this. I'd better not attempt anything as ambitious as you hinted
at: I have far too little knowhow in programming.
you mentioned that the bootcamp partition onto which Windows 7 should have been
installed should have been partitioned prior as ntf. I kind of assumed
Hi,
Ah, how strange! When I was researching what version of Windows I could run on
my late 2010 macbook air, the highest version I found was windows 7. I
understood that I just could not run windows 10. Otherwise I would have gone
for windows 10.
Thanks for this

That was exactly part of the confusion: I did put the iso file on the desktop
as I had read something to that effect in some of the support pages. But
bootcamp 6 on my late 2010 macbook air would not even recognise it and there
was no option to point it to the iso file. It insisted on having
Andrew,
You might need to call Apple to verify this. Information I found
indicates that El Capitan on your model Mac will only support Windows 8
or newer
IF you already had Windows 7 installed under Bootcamp, then this
would work. So this means that as a NEW installation, Windows 7 is
Where did you put the ISO file? Desktop would be a good place.
Bootcamp partition is the one that you want.

Hi,
Andrew,
I fought with this for several weeks before I figured out that my particular
Mac needed me to download the drivers from Apple.
I had to create the bootable USB drive.
It’s said you need a 16GB flash drive, and that’s what I got, but not sure why
that size.
1. Go in to Bootcamp utility.
this helps.

Hi!
I am really confused about this too.
A podcast would be great or a tutorial of some kind.

I had trouble with getting the drivers automatically so I downloaded
them.

Hi,
When installing Windows 7 in bootcamp
You can get BootCamp drivers either while running BootCamp Utility or from the
Apple Support site. Some earlier drivers (for XP and Vista, for instance) are
only on the DVDs that came with the Macs that supported those operating
systems. With an ISO and BootCamp Utility you should be directed
Hi,
When installing Windows 7 in bootcamp from ISO, is it necessary to manually get
the appropriate Apple drivers for windows, or will Bootcamp get them
automatically and install them?
I've been poring through help pages and I can see confusing info.
Many thanks
