Re: Is Airplay fixed?

2015-09-23 Thread Eileen Scrivani

Would this be the reason why when I last connected via Bluetooth to a Sony
Docking station (basically a large speaker) VO was acting weird and for a while
I was not getting sound out of either the speaker or the phone? I’ve never
played with Air Play settings and am not clear as to how they will impact
functioning of VO and sound coming from either the phone or a wireless speaker.

Thanks.

Thanks for that. It is called Audio Destination. I will test it this evening
with bluetooth speakers. With my earpiece, once I select speaker, rather than
external destination, the rotor selection disappears. I will attempt to figure
out the parameters of this new option.

Re: Is Airplay fixed?

2015-09-23 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Eileen, that's certainly possible. There are numerous audio-related bugs in
iOS 9, some of them quite serious. So something has been changed with respect
to the way VO processes audio, and perhaps it relates to this new audio
destination function.

RE: Anyone know how to play all songs by an artist on an iPod or iPhone?

2015-09-23 Thread Alan Lemly
Donna,

I'm glad it worked for you. I think in my original reply at the beginning of
this thread, I suggested asking Siri to "Play Bruno Mars unshuffled". I'm
not sure if unshuffled is the correct term for keeping Siri from using the
default of playing an artist shuffled but if it's not, I'm sure a more
correct wording exists to do this. Perhaps others with more experience can
chime in on the best wording to get music played without shuffling.

Hi Alan,

Well, it took me a while, but I finally had time to test this out. You were
right. Siri is a very easy way to do this. However, it is different from
using the procedure George described. Siri just shuffles the songs, whereas
if you do it the other way, one album is played then another then another.
Nice to have both options.

Re: Accessible Download Manager for Mac

2015-09-23 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Can I ask you to reconsider your need for a download manager? Safari already
knows how to resume downloads if the server supports it, and using multiple
connections to retrieve a file or files from a server is both inconsiderate and
unlikely to produce meaningful results with today’s operating systems (which
make efficient use of TCP) assuming that the problem isn’t that the server is
imposing artificial limits per connection which your download manager could
theoretically bypass. About the only cool thing about download managers like
those on Windows was that one could download simultaneously from mirrors of the
same file, which certainly made great use of resources.

This having been said, I don’t personally know of a graphical download manager
for OS X. You can script a command-line download tool, but that’s probably not
what you’re after (I used GetRight back in the day on Windows myself).

Ios 9and mail threads

Has anyone noticed that iOS nine no longer tells you how many messages are in
an email thread? Now, it just says multiple messages. I OS 8 point X used to
say X number of messages in thread. This bugs me.

hey,
you can see how fast things are going if you interact with the file table and

Re: Odd webpage behaviour.

2015-09-23 Thread Christina C.
Ok, try this. Navigate to the cell with the User’s guide link. Then interact
with it. If you VO left and right you will notice two places you can go. Voice
Over has nothing to say for the first place, but the second place Voice Over
will read out the name of the file. Go back to the silent/first option. if you
bring up the context menu you will get some options to download linked file or
open linked file in new window. I did not try any of these options. I hope this
will work for you. Also, I did a duck duck go search for your printer plus the
words user’s guide and in my search results some of the results appeared to be
direct links to the PDF. However, I wasn’t positive of your exact model nor did
I know what language you needed so I did not copy and paste the links here.

Good luck,

Re: Why on earth can I no longer read tables in Safari?

2015-09-23 Thread Christina C.
Thanks that all makes sense. Strangely I am still having lots of trouble with
tables. It is hit and miss. One thing I figured out to help a little bit is to
use the down arrow to get into the table. Not a VO down arrow but just the down
arrow with quick nav turned off.

Re: Is Airplay fixed?

2015-09-23 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Thanks. I just tested the phone with my Sony docking station. The phone
volume was fine while I was connected and playing music, as soon as I turned
bluetooth off and sound was again coming from the phone it was at an almost
in-audible volume. When I launched back into settings, the volume came back
up. It had been set to 100%. Then it went back down to a level that was
difficult to hear for a short couple of seconds and finally went back to normal
volume without my having to do anything.

This is really annoying. I hope they put in a fix soon.

Hi Eileen, that's certainly possible. There are numerous audio-related bugs in
iOS 9, some of them quite serious. So something has been changed with respect
to the way VO processes audio, and perhaps it relates to this new audio
destination function.

Thanks for that. It is called Audio Destination. I will test it this evening
with bluetooth speakers. With my earpiece, once I select speaker, rather than
external destination, the rotor selection disappears. I will attempt to figure
out the parameters of this new option.

Hi all, there is now a new rotor gesture available whenever you have an

This is comprehensively documented in iOS 9 Without the Eye, my book on iOS

Considering Apple have just come under fire for not providing fast enough
downloads of Xcode in the middle kingdom, that’s probably a good call. I
personally have quite good speeds to Apple Developer on fibre in the UK, so I

Up to date Bluetooth keyboard commands for iOS

2015-09-23 Thread Mary Otten
I am looking for a complete list of the Bluetooth keyboard commands available
in iOS nine. Ideally, this would include all those inaccessible commands that
were newly introduced. But, since that is not so likely, how about a place to
find the general commands available for the OS? The ones I have seen online or
several years old.

Importing files into voice dream writer

2015-09-23 Thread Mary Otten
I have voice dream writer. I admit that I haven't used it all that much, I
basically got it because I wanted to support Winston and liked the idea of a
word processor that was made with blind folks in mind. Anyway, I did do a
reading of the help file recently, and the one thing I note that is missing is
the ability to import files. Am I missing something? I would particularly like
to be able to import word files. But is the importation of files off the table?
I know some people have had extensive correspondence with Winston and
participated in the beta. Is importing of files something we might look forward
to in the future?
Mary
PS. I could certainly right Winston. But before doing so, I thought I would ask
here, in case this question has already been answered.

Microsoft word for the Mac

2015-09-23 Thread Mary Otten
I have used an old version of Microsoft word for windows for many many years. I
know this is going away, as soon as my old PC dis. I understand that the Mac
version is rather accessible. But I know nothing about it. Does it use the
ribbon? Do I have to have an office 365 subscription? Or do I buy it out right?
Mary

RE: Apple Music

2015-09-23 Thread Marcia Yale
Are you using a Mac or iPhone? On the Mac, if you have added an album to your
MY Music from the Apple Music collection, there is a download button in the
album details.

Hi all,

I subscribed to Apple Music and everything was working fine. However, the
"Make available offline" option puts up a notice that it isn't available
anymore. Does anybody know why this is or if there is a work-around?

Tia,
Jeff

Re: Using LOGITECH Headset for Face Time

2015-09-23 Thread tim
Go into system preferences and find sound. Now do a vo space bar on output and
then select your logitec headphones. Now all will go through its mic when
connected.

Re: Apple Music

2015-09-23 Thread Jeff Berwick
Thanks Marci, but this is specific to the iPhone...Although I guess I might be
able to download it on my Mac and then sync with the iPhone? Assuming that can
be done.

Re: Using LOGITECH Headset for Face Time

2015-09-23 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I don't think this is going to work. There has been an issue with Facetime
now for the longest time dating back to Mountain Lion. Even if another
input source is selected, for some reason it insists on routing the input
from the internal mike/line in instead of a secondary USB source. Even if
you switch it over in System Prefs, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I wish I could be of help, but you're not the only one who's seeing this
behavior.

Chris.
