Just a follow up to this..
I did try the window chooser and again, nothing happened.
Afraid to just power off the mac air, I let it sit there a little while, but
finally did power it off and waited about 30 seconds, turned it on again, and
when it came up, I again got the set up assistant, but
I've managed to get Swamp working. There's a delay when shooting, but all other
sounds run very well. I'll put a guide together once I nail down the exact
procedure.

time capsule unit is exactly what I need. I currently have a fairly elaborate
software setup on the windows side via fusion to do essentially what time
machine does, only I can only go back 7 days.
