Hello Eric,

exactly the same happened to me. I simply assumed the desired checkbox was
checked even though it said unchecked and it worked. But you might be right and
it should be reported to Apple.

Anyone else notice the button bug in the App Store app on the iPhone?

2018-11-25 Thread Eric Oyen
Hello all,
Well, I seem to have found a form controls bug in the App Store application on
iOS 12.1. I was asked to confirm my payment details, everything seems fine
until I tried to check the credit card type. I clicked on it using a bluetooth
keyboard and it would say “unchecked!” I would click again, with exactly the
same result.
So, I tried on screen (flicking left to the appropriate button control) and
double tapped it with a single finger. Same result: “Unchecked!” There appears
to be no way for me to complete the process without visual help. Can any of you
confirm this?

Thanks

Re: And easy to use audio player, and a few more questions?

2018-11-25 Thread Lorie McCloud
you mean a folder on the web or in your computer?

I use it for playing either folders of music or individual albums. it also
plays whatever you've highlighted but only 1 file at a time. I use it to random
large folders of music without haveing to create playlists. it'll play .ogg
or.flac or anything. someone told me how to convert files using it but I
haven't tried that yet.

I used to use Winamp in windows. I now use VLC on my Mac. I really like it. it
has a file conversion feature and a recorder. I don't know how the recorder
works though.

Re: what devices/appliances are people using with Apple Homekit?

2018-11-25 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
I've heard that furnace installers/repair people prefer the Eco, and I will say
I don't think our nest has worked quite as well with the new furnace that was
put in last summer. The Honeywell thermostat that Jeff mentioned also gets
good reviews. But yeah, I'm tired of controlling it through a separate app -
I'd really like to just run everything through home kit.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi!
There’s a swedish site called cdon.com which for me is quite slow with
VoiceOver.
It seems safari still is reading and loading some objects even though i can
navigate the page.
I thought i read that it actually was loading more objects.
I don’t know what they have on the page to make it work so slow.
Can i modify some Vo settings to make voiceover work faster or is it just
patiens which is the sollution.

Re: what devices/appliances are people using with Apple Homekit?

2018-11-25 Thread John JD Denning
Like you, I have a nest thermostat. I’ve had it for years. If Nast added
HomeKit support I would stick with Nest and probably upgrade. But I’m
considering the ecobee as well. I really would like control via HomeKit and
Siri. Everything else I have is controllable via Siri.

I have several automations, like went to turn on outdoor lights went to turn
them off if somebody approaches the house at night to turn on certain lights.
And then of course he seen that shut everything down. And all controllable by
Siri, or the Home app on my phone. And everything was easy to set up.

Re: what devices/appliances are people using with Apple Homekit?

2018-11-25 Thread John JD Denning
I am using LIFX bulbs, eve switches, and eve motion detector.

The only accessibility problem I have is adjusting colors on the bulbs. It’s a
very graphic interface. And not even usable with voiceover on. Everything else
is no problem at all.

Thinking about running windows 10 on my MBP but first a few questions

2018-11-25 Thread 'Danny Keys' via MacVisionaries
Hello,
I’m considering running windows on my MBP mid 2014 machine running the latest
OS Mojave.
I have a few questions.
Can I use an external hard drive in place of a usb 2.0 flash drive?
How long can I run windows 10 for free before I have to purchase it?
At what point can I begin using Narrator to complete the setup? Or should I
have eyes present.
Thanks for any assistance.

Re: what devices/appliances are people using with Apple Homekit?

2018-11-25 Thread Jeff Berwick
Hi Donna,

All of the products I use work with Homekit They also work with Google Home.
I have both systems in my house, so I wanted cross compatibility.

The iHome ISS50 is a 5 in 1 sensor. It can report back on things such as:

temperature,
humidity,
motion,
sound and,
light.

Apparently, sound monitoring doesn’t currently work with Homekit, but you can
monitor through the iHome Control app.

More information at:

https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/ihome-ihome-iss50-5-in-1-smart-home-monitor-iss50wc/10488097.aspx

I use the iHome Control app, Philips Hue and Home for my needs and find all of
them accessible.

2018-11-25 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Jeff,

thanks for this. These are some of the devices I am considering. Are they all
controllable by Siri?

Also, what is an iHome ISS 50?
Thanks,
Donna

Re: what devices/appliances are people using with Apple Homekit?

2018-11-25 Thread Jeff Berwick
Hi Donna,

I am using a bunch of Philips Hue lights which work with a bridge. I also have
several iHome Smart plugs that I use to turn things on and off and I have an
August Smart Lock.

I’m hoping to get an iHome ISS50 5 in 1 sensor for Christmas.

Tia,
Jeff

name not the full path.
If this is something you do often, a AppleScript that gets the

not be surprised if you could also do this with automator.

Re: Starting An App Automatically At Login

2018-11-25 Thread Pete De Vasto
Thanks to all for your replies. Sean, I had forgotten about the Open at Login.
Option for apps on the dock, and since both mail and messages were there, that
would have been excellent! What I wound up doing in System Preferences, after
clicking the lock to allow changes, was to click the Add button, then go to the
toolbar and do a search for mail, then messages. Both apps now open up on
startup, which is exactly what I wanted.

I found some instructions on the internet indicating to hit
[control]+[option]+M to get to the status bar and then hit [option]+[down
arrow] to get to Control Centre, but the [option]+[down arrow] portion of
these instructions doesn’t do anything for me.

Have you tried adding the shift key to these commands?

[fn]+[vo]+[down arrow] doesn’t do anything, but [fn]+[vo]+[up arrow] gets me to
notification centre. Maybe something is weird with my keyboard.

Subject: Starting An App Automatically At Login

Hi all,

I’m having trouble figuring out how to do this under Mojave. I want to have
Mail and Messages start automatically each time I login. So I go to system
Preferences > Users and Groups, select my account, then go to the Login Items
tab. But only one app comes up in the list of available apps, and when I click
the Add button I can’t seem to find the list of all apps I can choose from. It
looks like a Finder-type window is opening, but again, I can’t figure out how
to get to the list of apps. And yes, I did click the lock to make changes. Can
someone help me with this?

Many thanks,
Pete De Vasto
