Re: Beginners question

2019-09-04 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
I’ll try that later as I’m about to get ready to go to work, I don’t want to be
late as I’ve been off work fore two months now with a broken wrist and this is
my first evening back.
I was playing round and discovered the VO+h twice and then I was able to arrow
down until I found speech and was able to adjust the rate from there.
But thanks again for that key combo as that would be much quicker.
Take care

Ah, missed a key there. A few versions back the keystroke was
control-command-option. But Apple decided that rotor usage was more useful than
voice adjustment and so now one has to hold down all four modifiers to adjust
Voice, Voice rate, voice volume, voice intonation, and pitch.
That is control and option and command and shift and an arrow key!

Re: Beginners question

2019-09-04 Thread Dave Carlson
Raymond,
I’m confused, also. I do not get any change when pressing Shift-VO-Right/left,
nor any effect with Shift-VO-Up/down. Is there a VO setting that we need to
activate to get this to work?
If I run the keyboard help (VO-K) it also does not identify those keystrokes
you gave.

Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch, Apple Support

2019-09-04 Thread M. Taylor
Manage Health data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or Apple Watch

You can set up apps and accessories to send data to the Health app, enter
data manually, and change how Health prioritizes data from those sources.

How Health handles data from multiple sources
The Health app takes similar data from different sources, like steps
recorded from your iPhone and activity from your Apple Watch, and organizes
it based on where it comes from. By default, Health prioritizes data in this
order:
1. Health data that you enter manually.
2. Data from your iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.
3. Data from apps and Bluetooth devices.

When you add a new data source, it appears above all other apps and devices
that contribute data for steps in Health. You can change the order of
sources at any time.

View your data sources
Here's how to see which sources update data for specific Health categories:
1. Open the Health app and tap the Health Data tab.
2. Tap a category, like Activity. If you don't see the category, swipe
down to reveal the search bar, then enter a category.
3. Tap a data type, like Steps.
4. Tap Data Sources & Access. Only the sources that contribute to that
data type will appear.

Here's how to see all of your sources:
1. Open the Health app and tap the Sources tab.
2. Tap an app or device.
3. Choose categories that you want the source to access or update in
the Health app.

Prioritize data sources
Here's how to choose the sources that Health uses first:
1. Open the Health app and tap the Health Data tab.
2. Tap a category, like Activity.
3. Tap a data type, like Steps.
4. Tap Data Sources & Access, then tap Edit.
5. Touch and hold next to a data source, then drag it up or down in
the list.
6. To turn off a data source so that it doesn't contribute any more
data for that category, tap the checkmark next to the source.
7. Tap Done.
If multiple sources contribute the same data type, then the data source at
the top will take priority over other sources. Any new apps or devices that
you add go to the top of the list automatically, above your iPhone or iPod
touch.

Enter data
You can enter data that isn't tracked by an app or device. For example, if
you get your blood pressure from a doctor's visit, you can enter it.
1. Open the Health app and tap the Health Data tab.
2. Tap a health category, like Vitals.
3. Tap a data type, like Blood Pressure.
4. Tap , in the upper-right corner.
5. Enter the date, time, and data for that activity.
6. When you're finished, tap Add.

Explore more Health features
. Set up and use the Health app on your iPhone or iPod touch.
. Set up a Medical ID in the Health app to access important medical
information.
. Track your sleep with Bedtime in the Clock app.
. With iOS 11.3, you can see your health records from multiple
institutions right on your iPhone. Add your health records and see the
supported institutions.

Now I wish I was a little more organised with my email folders, I had a similar
set of questions a few months back where I was trying to change the genre in
iTunes. With lots of help and patients from Tim, ET and others I got there. If
I find the old emails I’ll re-post them.
Now this might all change when iTunes dies, so we will have to wait and see if
it is easier. But once I got the hang of it, it wasn’t too bad.

Re: Tag Editor for Batch Editing Music Files

2019-09-04 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Yeah, because it's a complicated element, where it's a combo-box, entry field
and pop-over thing, VO doesn't necessarily handle it as consistently as other
elements. It used to be easier, but in the upgrades for the sighted user, it
made it more cumbersome for that field for us. I've just found that it's
easier to press VO-space on the combo-box, then arrow and return then go back
to VO-navigation after that so that I don't have to Window Chooser all the
time. I don't do this much anymore as most of my music has already been fixed
up.

Change it and then leave it.

Also under the options tab there is a drop down that you need to modify also.

Tim,
Starting to get the hang of this. Thanks for all the tips. One question has to
do with changing the genre. This is a combo list inside the scroll list inside
the dialog — I think you can wrap your head around that. So I VO-arrow to the
genre I want, and then I get into some serious trouble. Pressing spacebar jumps
me back to the main iTunes windows, so I use the windows chooser to get bak.
Pressing VO-spacebar does nothing. Pressing VO-shift-uparrow gives me an
announcement to press Escape to get out of the drop list. When I do that, I’m
back up, and the genre had not changed. Seems like the only thing that works,
sort of, is pressing the Enter key and then I’m apparently back out of the
combo list. Any hints to why this is so unpredictable?

RE: Tag Editor for Batch Editing Music Files

2019-09-04 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Dave,

If each album is in it’s own folder then you don’t need a different product or
batch file to change this data,

As tim said if you highlight the files in the album folder or all te tracks
then use get info to change the album name, artist etc

Give it a try and see how you get on,

Don’t knock it until you try it

Subject: Re: Tag Editor for Batch Editing Music Files

Tim,
I have a few hundred songs that have no album and no artist information in
their tags. So when I paste these into iTunes, they end up in a group of blanks
with just the song titles. So trying to grab a group of them from an
alphabetical list does not work. They are in separate folders in my original
collection of music files, so I do know what artist and album names they are
supposed to have — it’s just that none of these ever got properly tagged.
So even though I can use the info dialog in iTunes to work on changing songs
that are already grouped or single songs, I do need an app to do this from the
folder/file list in Finder.

Re: Tag Editor for Batch Editing Music Files

2019-09-04 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

If it's a genre you use lots, just type the first few letters of it. So, for
example, if you have a genre called "Easy Listening", just type the word "Easy"
then either tab or use VO-right to move on. If you have "Easy Listening" and
"Easy Rock", you'll usually need to enter "Easy r" to make it be Easy Rock as
Easy Listening is first alphabetically, so just typing "Easy" would default to
"Easy Listening". You can also add your own genres just by typing it into the
field yourself. If you do choose to use their list without typing, use just
the arrow keys, no VO keys, and press return when you're done.

Re: Tag Editor for Batch Editing Music Files

2019-09-04 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

So, using your setup, import the folder group that you wish to modify the tags
on. Thus, these will be the only ones with the missing album/artist info. If
you sort things by the Date Added, then you'll have easy access to the newest
imports. Then you can select those newest items, cmd-i to Get Info on them and
make the necessary changes. If the Date Added column is not available to you
in your Songs table, press cmd-j to bring up the View options, navigate through
them and check the box for showing Date Added. Now, with the Date Added column
present, interact with the Music table, press VO-shift-back slash to bring
focus to the headers, and press VO-space on the Date Added header. Pressing it
a second time will toggle sort direction between ascending and descending. I
like it descending so that the newest items are at the top. You can then
select them and modify the tags as you wish.

So even though I can use the info dialog in iTunes to work on changing songs

Hi,

That's a rather exaggerated and incorrect evaluation of the process in iTunes.

1. Select the items you wish to modify.
2. Press cmd-i to Get Info.
3. Navigate through the Info dialog editing the fields you wish to modify.
4. Press OK.

All done. Maybe you can add a few steps if you plan on modifying numerous
fields, but that's not particularly complicated or inefficient as far as I can
tell. I guess that we all have our own opinions, but that sort of exaggeration
does not help anyone.

Re: Tag Editor for Batch Editing Music Files

2019-09-04 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

What sort of issues are you having when doing this in iTunes? Using the Info
dialog in iTunes, you can easily do what you want individually or in bulk.
I've used it extensively for this exact process. There are likely other tools
out there, but I haven't bothered to look since iTunes is fully accessible and
does the job efficiently.

Hi,

T?here is also an app for your Mac available in the Mac App Store. It is more

RE: Speed Test Results

2019-09-04 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Petrus is using a rather up to date device which is able to run 1gigabit speeds.

 As is my own device.
But like anything including your list of possible reasons
We can include the limits behind or with our nations fibre connections
including each connection having a limit of I believe 25 users per connection

As our our fibre connections run on the ADSL 2 plus protocol which is still
pretty much old tech

Hello,

I get a bit confused also, (no pun intended). In terms of the internet, when
you are transmitting data, such as when talking about speed, it is always in
bits rather than bites. As far as the question of why wi-fi is slower than
wired, it is nearly always that way. A wired signal always transmits along the
wire, and does not weaken until it reaches a certain distance, whereas a wi-fi
signal may have to go through walls, be accessed from an angle, experience
interference, etc. Also, there are two different kinds of wi-fi signal, 2.4
GHZ, and 5.0 GHZ. The 2.4 will transmit for a longer distance, but will be
slower, and the 5.0 will weaken at a shorter distance from the box. I don’t
know how much difference it makes if you are using fiber though. I would call
the internet service provider and let them know what is happening. It could be
the box needs to be moved, a channel needs to be changed, or something needs to
be updated. It could also be that the device you are using to access the
internet with is simply not built to process one gigabit of speed. Okay okay,
the nerd is shutting up now. Hope at least some of this was helpful.

Holly
