Help! Contents of Settings app have vanished from my iPhone 12 mini!

2021-08-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

I’ve never seen anything like this.

I was trying to re-pair my VarioUltra. As usual, I had difficulty pairing the
display. I finally thought I had it paired, but it turned out I didn’t. When
I tried to go back into Settings, everything was gone e. VO just takes me to
the status bar and there appears to be nothing else on the screen. I’ve
rebooted my phone, but still can see nothing in the settings app.

Appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: App for Testing Read/Write speed of Hard drives?

2021-08-06 Thread Eric Oyen
There may be one. However, I use DD with the bs option (block size). A script
can be created easily enough in terminal to run it several times and then give
the results each time. You will know when you pass the max file transfer
efficiency hump when numbers start heading back downward. I will have to do a
bit of looking to see how to create a script to do this.

In any case, there are tools for determining best transfer speed of a device
given a few known parameters.

Re: Figured out Apple Pay problem

2021-08-06 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello:
I have we have a PayPal debit card and I use that all the time to transfer
money into Apple Pay. As long as the money is in Apple Pay you should be
able to do that you just have to set up your card to for Apple and then
make sure that card is selected when you transfer money.
It’s not easy but it works. Once you get it set up correctly!

Re: Figured out Apple Pay problem

2021-08-06 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I understand they just expanded the options for Apple Cash, something about
debit cards, but I think to transfer money out of cash, there is a charge of
about 1.5% .
HTH!

Best wishes,

Hi,

Great. Glad it worked for you. Yeah, I’ve got two full-sized HomePods and two
Minis, and do not use VO on any of them.

2021-08-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hey Tim,

Great suggestion. I turned off VO, and it’s much better. You’re right, most
of the time when I’m interacting with a HomePod I’m using Siri, so not having
VO hardly matters.
Cheers,
Donna

Interesting. I see your point. Maybe I’ll try turning Voiceover off, and see
how that goes.

Hi,

I normally don’t bother with VoiceOver on the HomePods. I can do everything
I’ve ever needed to do with either Siri or using the Home app on
iPhone/iPad/Mac. Yes, the Siri voice is often a little louder than the music
in order that it can be heard over the music.

independent of the other.

Hopefully Apple will not let this same issue live on in the home pod mini
platform.

Re: Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the Voice volume on a HomePod mini?

2021-08-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Thanks, Tim. That fits with what I’ve experienced. The problem is that the
volume of the VO voice is way disproportionately louder than the volume of the
music.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the Voice volume on a HomePod mini?

2021-08-06 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

With the HomePod and HomePod minis, the volume of the Siri voice is controlled
by the main volume of the HomePods. So, if you set the volume to 40%, then the
Siri voice will be a certain level. If you increase the volume to 80%, then
the Siri voice will be louder. I don’t believe that it is directly
proportional, but it is controlled by the volume of the HomePods themselves,.
I normally just tell Siri to set the volume to such and such a percent and go
from there.

Later…

Re: Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the Voice volume on a HomePod mini?

2021-08-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
I think I’ll try an nudge things in that direction by sending feedback to
Apple.

Re: Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the Voice volume on a HomePod mini?

2021-08-06 Thread Dave Carlson
This issue with the home pod mini reminds me of one with the very old iPod
nano. The firmware was never updated nor was very robust. The VO voice is
always much louder than the audio being played. And never a way to adjust one
independent of the other.
Hopefully Apple will not let this same issue live on in the home pod mini
platform.

Re: Lowering VO Voice on Homepod Mini

2021-08-06 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Yeah, right? No offense to those of you with hearing issues, but it frustrates
me to no end that many sighted people seem to think that because my eyes don’t
work, everything should make lots of noise and be really loud. I mean
seriously! What stupid train of logic would come to that conclusion? And I
was doing exactly what you were talking about. I was in the bedroom, trying to
play some quiet music before I went to sleep, and Samantha was just bellowing
for all she was worth.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi Donna,
just tell Siri to speak louder or quieter. Unfortunately it doesn't stay for
very long but for a short while it works. And in my oppinion the volume is
always to high at least in my bedroom at night.
All the best
