I believe this is an issue with all applications in general. I tend to find
that Safari, iTunes and Mail can become a bit sluggish, as well as Voiceover.
This is on a Macbook Pro that gets put to sleep more often than it gets shut
down or restarted. A quick restart often fixes the problem.
If the iMac came with an organic LED screen, adjusting it between horizontal
and vertical would be that much easier. Add solid-state storage and you'd have
something like a giant iPad with USB connectors on the back.

Having used ProTools quite successfully to fully record, edit and mix a five
piece rock band, I'd say it's quite accessible. ProTools can come in two
flavours. ProTools LE is for project studios and has a limited number of tracks
