I did choose the move option, because I read where that was a good idea. I still get no start up music and those notifications that I can’t read under Fusion 6, Windows 7, and Mavericks. Youtube videos in Safari
All of a sudden they don't play. I've emptied the cash, went to flash under advanced in system preferences and deleted that stuff. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash Player. I've repaired permissions, reset Safari, and I think that's all. I have a new MBA with ML. The videos played up until today and now they don't. Control/command/F makes the Safari page for youtube full screen, but I still don't know how to make the actual video filll the screen. I would imagine there is somewhere on the page that has to be interacted with or some such thing, but nothing seems to do the trick. Hi Stacie: I have a 2009 Macbook Pro and previously updated to Lion. I hated it! It's been a while, so I can't remember just why. I did eventually update to ML, and I do like it. I seem to recall that the white Macbooks couldn't be updated to ML. Someone else will need to advise about Lion. Just because I didn't like it doesn't mean you won't, but I just thought I'd throwt that out there. Hello all: I have been running Windows 7 in Fusion along side OSX with 8 gigs of ram on a 2009 MBP, and it runs very well, even with several apps open in windows and OSX. The ram is certainly the main issue here, but I'm sure all the processor speed you can afford will have added benefits. I'm in the market for an MBA soon too, so good luck with your purchase. I know that VoiceOver likes to say Busy, busy, busy in programs sometimes, and I remember that I have had the same issues with that as someone who had 2 gb of ram. But ram is always supposed to be the biggest factor in immediate increased performance. I ordered this. After I upgraded to ML, my version 3 of Fusion no longer worked. I downloaded version 5 and used a 30-day trial, but just never paid to upgrade. I'm glad I saw this before I paid for the upgrade. I suppose this will come with the codes necessary to authorize Fusion version 5? I'm planning to get a new Macbook Air to replace my mid 2009 13 inch MBP some time in the future as well, but I do like the option to be able to run windows if I want or need to. I'll be interested to see how everyone gets on with this. Hi folks: I just upgraded to ML, and I was running VMware Fusion version 3. I know I need version 5. If I install version 5, can I just paste a folder in and not have to reinstall Windows 7, Jaws, and all that mess? If so, where is this folder, and what's its name? Youtube videos do not play anymore in Webkit
This has been a recent development. If I click a youtube video link while in Facebook, or anywhere for that matter, I go to the Youtube page, but can't get the video to play. I see no where on the page to make the video play. I end up launching VMware Fusion and opening the video in Internet Explorer in Windows 7. Highly annoying. Mike, did you do a clean install or just the update? I upgraded to Lion at one poinnt from SL with my late 2009 Macbook Pro and absolutely hated the clunkiness of mail and other things. I would like to upgrade to ML now, but have been hesitant to do so. I use VMware Fusion and have Windows 7 in a virtual machine that I use from time to time, so I'd have to upgrade there and maybe reinstall Windows 7 Jaws, and the whole shabang. Doesn't sound like much fun, so I've just been putting it off. :) Who knows, maybe I'll have extra time during this long, cold winter, and just do it and get it over with. I'm liking what I'm hearing about ML so far. I got a brand new iPhone 5 delivered last Thursday from Sprint, and triple click of the home button did not turn VO on right out of the box. Macbook Pro keeps dropping wifi connection
Hi folks: All of a sudden, today, my MBP, late 2009 model, still running SL, keeps dropping its wifi connection. When I check it in the system menu, VO M twice quickly, it says it is still connected to my home network, but Safari or Webkit just sits there. I turn airport off and then back on and it will work again for a few minutes, and then lose connection again. I got AT Uverse a couple of months ago, but it has worked great until today. Other windows machines on the network seem to be keeping their connections just fine. I told my computer to forget the network and reestablished it, but still the same story. I removed all remembered networks. I recycled the modem and router. We'll see what happens. It seems like I can switch about f5 or 6 web pages, and then it just drops out. It still shows as connected in the airport menu and in system prefs, but no internet. Let's pray it stays connected since I did the reboot of the router and modem. Someone had also set a speaker right next to the router, which had not been there before. I moved that too. I hope there's nothing wrong with the wifi device in my MBP. I know things can interfere with the signal, but nothing has really changed around here, except for that speaker that I just moved. I found a checkbox that states something like known networks will be joined automatically. I guess a known network is one you've previously joined? It seems to be working just fine since I recycled everything. I'm leaning toward the fact that something was interfering with the signal for some reason. Once in the developer menu, locate the User Agent sub menu, and expand it. 8. Inside User agent, hit the letter F, as in foxtrot. This should land you on Firefox 4.0. I know again this sounds really cock eyed, but trust me, I swear it works. 9. Select Firefox 4.0. This should force the web site to reload. Once done, have a look. You'll now find it looks totally totally accessible like it did on the Windows side of things. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to get that to stick. In other words, each time you load the site, you're going to have to go to the developer menu, user agent, Firefox 4.0 after loading up the web site. I have a late 2009 Macbook Pro, which I upgraded to 8 gigs of ram. I heard during the keynote that you can upgrade from SL to ML without needing Lion. After much googling and endless frustration with emails which just kept reappearing after I deleted them multiple times from my inboxes, I removed all my mailboxes and added them again. Hello listers, I have an email that keeps coming back in my inboxes no matter how many times I delete it. It seems to replicate itself about 5 or 6 times in 3 of my mail boxes. My ISP addresses, as well as my Hotmail inboxes are effected. These messages are always from May 17 and 18 at various times of the day. The subject line is: Merritt Line Rocking Bargains and the sender is Stanley Robinson. I've heard rumblings lately of a Mac virus. Do I have one and how do I get rid of it if I do? Christine, I agree with you completely. There is a screenreader company who also provides access to described content as part of their network. I wonder if these offerings were gotten completely on the up and up? I use the vault myself for my own entertainment and nothing more. I'm not trying to sell it or redistribute it in any way. Every time I enjoy a described show with one of those awesome British accents narrating, I say thank God for the folks across the pond who believe visually impaired folks have as much right to described content as they can make available. I, too, would happily purchase content were it available, but since it is not, I will continue to utilize this described material as long as it remains an option. I would happily go to the movies more and happily purchase audio-described movies through iTunes if they were available. Even movies which are released with audio description are not always sold through movie resellers -- goodness knows I have tried. To date, I have only located The Incredible Hulk, from 2008, which I purchased for my son. Even Apple could do more. It could strengthen its requirements for apps. It has provided developers with the means to make their apps VoiceOver accessible, and there are plenty of apps out there which could be so. Only apps that are visual by their very nature should be exempted. But, as usual, profit trumps people, despite the fact that the disabled community rewards those who remember us with our business. Frankly, I would prefer to purchase the audio-described movies and shows I download from the vault, so that I could watch them with sighted friends and family. I wish I could show a film to a class and not have to ask my para or a student to tell me what is going on. The entertainment industry gets plenty of my money. If they want more, they should remember that I deserve to be able to access their material independently. OK. Topic over. Ricardo, I did use the classic view, and it was still clunky. I haven't had one busy in mail since I went back to Snow Leopard. My whole system was just clunky under Lion, and maybe it's because I just ran the update and didn't install it fresh and then import my stuff, I don't know. I run Windows 7 in a virtual machine under Fusion. Don't know if that made it more clunky. To add to dock, command/shift/T while you're sitting on the name of the application in the finder. You can remove from dock by pressing VO/shift/M and choosing options, and then choose remove from dock. I don't know a keystroke to remove from doc. I updated to Lion a few weeks ago. Mail was awful under Lion, which is why I was not terribly upset this weekend when my Macbook Pro crashed completely for the first time ever in the 27 months I've owned it. I had to erase and reinstall from the Snow Leopard disk that came with the Macbook, and I hadn't run a Time Machine backup since before I installed Lion, so I just restored that backup. My Macbook runs so much better over all with Snow Leopard than it did in the few weeks I had Lion, and mail works flawlessly. None of that busy stuff. I just think mail under Lion is plain clunky. Hello all: I just updated my Mac Book Pro to Lion, and am a little baffled by mail. I have mine in threaded by conversation view, but it does not react like it did under SN. I'm trying to figure out how to read all the messages in a multimessage thread. I know there is some setting I should probably change, but I have no idea which one. Upgrading to Lion and my virtual machine with windows 7 and jaws
HI folks: I still haven't taken the plunge and updated my MBP to Lion. I have VMware Fusion with Windows 7 in a virtual machine with JAWS. If I do a clean install, can I install the virtual machine inside Fusion from a Time machine backup? If not, what do you suggest? If I just run the upgrade instead do you think I'm asking for trouble? Anybody know of any step by step instructions for doing a clean install and installing the backup once the OS has been updated? I'm having tons of issues with Safari as well, and the last three weeks sounds about right. I haven't updated to Lion yet either. Seems like several sites I visit tend to stall out just about the time I get to the information I need. The HTML will close and I'll be dumped into the bookmarks bar. I interact with the HTML again, and same thing when I get to a certain point on the page. I'm going to Windows more and more for web surfing, and I don't like to have to do that, but IE is working better than Safari or WebKit at this point. Hello Matt: If you go into the Apple menu (VO M) and down arrow until you come to App store and press enter, you can give it a look yourself. It works a lot like the iTunes store and the App store for the I devices. Mark, I haven't experienced this with Skype, but I have a Magic Jack, and often have the same problem. I think the interference has something to do with the internet connecting with the land lines, cell phones, etc. I experience this when talking to people who have cell phones more than land lines, and it seems to be worse in the evening, when it is logical that there would be more traffic on the internet from my neighborhood. I have cable internet, by the way. Some times I can hang up and have the person call me back and this stops, but not always. Some times I can talk and it's as clear as a bell, and other times, not so clear. I have a late 2009 13 inch Macbook Pro with a 2.26 GHZ processor and 8 gigs of ram. I run Windows 7 under Fusion and OSX side by side with Voice Over and Jaws 12 both running. I have had several applications running on both sides at once very successfully. JAWS still crackles and slightly stutters minimally and quite randomly. If you're going to open it up, why not max it out. I used a third part 8 gig ram kit. I don't remember the brand, but as long as it has the same specs, it will do the trick. Is it possible your document was upside down? I made sure mine was right side up. I know that automatic orientation would be a great feature, but it is often easy to tell which end of a document is the top by a staple, or possibly even having someone orient documents for you before you throw them on the scanner. I had great results with it, but I was sure the document was right side up and followed Ann's list of settings to the letter. Actually, I didn't think it took terribly long to process, but I just don't know if I want to drop $299 on it right now. I just wish there was another solution on the Mac that didn't require using to applications to get a scanned document, as is the case with needing to use Vuscan and then ABBYY Fine Reader. Isn't ABBYY Fine Reader $99? I wasn't successful getting it to work during the trial period, but I kind of put it asside and forgot about it. Now, I'm loathe to put down $99 for it, and then find out I still can't get it to work. My desktop PC I was using to scan with an old Dell all-in-one and ABBYY Fine Reader version 5 has just died, and I don't have a scanning solution at all at the moment. I do have a sighted husband, so it is not terribly urgent. Guess Im just biding my time here. Honestly Jenny, I don't really remember what my issue was with ABBYY Fine Reader. I was under the impression you needed to scan with Vuscan, and then open the file in ABBYY Fine Reader to do the OCR on it. Is this correct? My Cannon Canoscan 220 worked great too. I haven't shelled out the $299 yet. I keep hoping for a less expensive solution. My demo of ABBYY Fine Reader Express ran out before I could get it going, so I don't know how well it works. Vuscan works well though, as the driver software with the scanner didn't seem to be VO compatible. Our car stereo has a USB port. I transfer music to a thumb drive, plug it into the stereo, and I have 16 gigs of music blasting away. I'm just waiting for the 32 gig USB drives to come down in price a little bit more and I'll have twice the amount of music on a tiny little device I can hold in the palm of my hand. CD's scratch and thumb drives don't. Keep some CD's and DVD's around for your grandchildren, because they won't be using them, and you can show them a little piece of forgotten history. David, were your Cannon scanner drivers inaccessible with VO? I couldn't make heads or tails out of them with VO myself, but they have to be running to use the scanner. I have scanned stuff with Vuscan, which I already bought. I use Vuscan for things that do not need OCR. I'm considering Docuscan Plus. I can't get Fine Reader Express to work for some reason. I, like others, have tried Docuscan Plus today. So far, I am impressed, but I don't know if it's to the tune of $299. I agree the necessity of being connected to the internet in order to use the program is definitely a legitimate caveat. I don't really know that I want my account numbers and other sensitive information I will likely need to scan residing out there on the cloud. What's wrong with being able to scan these documents locally? I suffered the death of an old windows XP desktop computer this past week that I was running Kurzweil 1000 on. It is an older version that doesn't run on any of my current Windows 7 machines or my Macbook Pro, which is my favorite computer. I just bought a Cannon Lied 210 and bought Vuscan just to be able to scan photographs and the like, as the drivers that are included with the Cannon scanner are not accessible with VO. I guess the bottom line for me is do I buy something like ABBYY Fine Reader or do I go with DocuScan Plus? I'm going to keep trying Docuscan out this week, and make my decision later. Hi: You need a program called the Unarchiver. I'm sure if you do a Google search, you'll come up with it. It's free and works great! :) Once you have this program, you can VO/shift/M on the zipped folder, arrow to open with, enter and the Unarchiver will be one of your choices. Mary, I had to get rid of the Click to Flash extension. I had a devil of a time doing it too. As a matter of fact, I really don't know how I finally managed it, but as soon as I was able to get the preferences pane up for Safari, I went in and uninstalled Click to Flash. It drove me batty yesterday while I was trying to figure out how to get rid of it though. I think the Click to Flash dialog was hiding on me, and was still open, and that's why my menu options were grayed. I think what I managed to do was bring up all open windows and close the Click to Flash window. Once this was accomplished, the choices were no longer grayed, and I got rid of Click to Flash. I don't want it if it is going to render Safari and Webkit unusable. Webkit and Safari Troubles. Click to Flash dialog coming up every time I open Safari or Webkit. HELP!!!
Hi folks: Webkit and Safari seem to have gone bonkers on me. Every time I open either one, I get a dialog that pops up with click to flash release notes, etc., which I have to click the OK button to get out of. I then am put on an HTML page with what looks like preference choices for click to flash or something. I close this with command W, and am put on my home screen in either Webkit and Safari. From here, nearly anything I try results in mostly nothing. I also notice that when I go into the menus for Safari or Webkit, most of the choices under the Safari or Webkit menu are grayed out and unavailable. Even the choice to quit Webkit or Safari are unavailable. I have to force quit both of these applications. Fortunately, I have IE running under windows under Fusion, or I would really be having a fit. Webkit seems to have been getting increasingly irritating over the past few weeks, and I have found myself using IE more and more. This is not the direction I had intended to go with my Apple products, but I have no choice for now. Anybody have any suggestions? I even got rid of Webkit and redownloaded the latest build, just to have the same thing pop up as soon as I opened it. Any assistance is appreciated in advance. How do I get rid of Click to Flash?
HI folks. Safari and Webkit have gone crazy. How do I get rid of Click to Flash? All the choices under the Safari and Webkit menus are grayed out. Where is Click to Flash located on the Mac? I am getting a Click to Flash dialog everytime I load Safari or Webkit. When I close this, all the choices are stil grayed out under the Safari and Webkit menus. I have an iPhone, iPod Touch, IPad (which my husbanf uses most of the time), and a Macbook Pro. Were it me, I would get the Macbook Air, but I like the keyboard. The small Macbook Air is so thin and light. It's not that much bigger than the iPad. I had difficulties with FaceBook last night on the mobile site in WebKit. I would press VO/space on the see more stories link and it would do nothing. It was as if I hadn't done a thing. I also noticed that when I wanted to comment, I could press the comment link and it would take forever for the page of comments to come up. I got annoyed and got off FaceBook. I think it's a great idea, and I do apologize for my congratulations email that went to the whole list. I really meant to send it privately and just wasn't thinking.
