Hi Chuckie,

Enough enough,

The mans name is ET, that is e for echo and T for Tango,
You know this but yet you still call him EAT provoking an argument.

We don't need this crap on this list,
Please drop it and take your signature off your email, it's annoying!

I don’t find it addicting but that’s me. I think the closest I get
is I do like watching content on youtube and other video sources but
I’m more of a passive user of social media. I get news aggregated
on twitter and so forth.

thing I have done which I I don't remember the exact procedure was to go into
my Facebook settings and put family members and those very close to me to sort
up to the top of my Facebook newsfeed. Certainly if you have a close friend or
family that spews a lot of questionable links to Facebook this won't help very
much.

Another feature of Facebook if you are attempting to tune it down is to click
on the options of the post often times you can say don't show me posts from the
Candy Crush app or some such equivalent. I haven't done this in a while but it
certainly can help at putting what you want to see near the top so you don't
have to skim as much garbage from items that interest you. Any chance there is
an posting for blind folks on how to get the most out of Facebook or other
social media?

There certainly is a need for such!

  thing I
Best wishes,

Things haven’t changed that much, porn is still one of the biggest financial
drivers on the internet. A very large percentage of the over all traffic is
adult content. When I was running my carrier business I had several adult
content providers as customers. They were some of the best clients you could
ask for. Always wanting more and more bandwidth, paid on time every time and
pushed a lot of traffic that was destined for over seas networks making peering
attractive for overseas players helping me build connections that delivered
very good international connectivity. The South Koreans for example download a
massive amount of US adult content. Helped me set up several lasting
relationships with Koreatel and KDDI Japan.:)
Adult content is also in a small way helping the adoption of IPv6. At
one point there was a porn site that was available completely for free but only
over IPv6. It motivated a few folks to deploy a dual stack arrangement if you
know what I mean.:). Free adult content is a motivator.

RE: Social Media and Preparedness

2017-09-04 Thread David & his pack of dogs
There is good and bad in most things. Years ago, the older ones viewed
computers as A just another book keeping device or B a way of getting porn
secretly. I heard one of those comments a long time ago. Face book was used to
advertise the opening of a new restaurant. Also, as mentioned when there were
forest fires in B C, a way of giving updates and notifying friends that one was
alright and keeping them a breast of evacuation orders.

Tim,
This is what is swinging me around to use the apps. You would probably
agree the benefits outweigh the garbage. I have friends in Texas who felt the
power of Harvey but were far enough away to be safe.

Re: Social Media and Preparedness

2017-09-04 Thread Scott Granados
This makes sense and cell service is pretty reliable even during these natural
disasters. Some carriers put more emphasis on disaster recovery than others,
Verizon for example used to build generators in to all of their major towers
and distribution points, others might focus lesss on generators but might have
batteries which would carry for a while and so forth. Even during Harvey the
news gathering organizations were having some success using the cell networks
for their broadcasts. A lot of locations are going to smaller cells more
densely placed so there aren’t the big towers to fall over and be damaged in
the wind. YOu’ll have little devices the size of lunch boxes scattered on
poles and roofs so you can lose some sites but still be fully functional. They
also form wireless meshes so there’s fewer physical fibers and cables to break
and disrupt communications. Definitely aren’t perfect yet and you still need
that old battery operated transistor radio in case the sites go out and you
have 0 communication but at least thought is being put in to designing networks
that with stand these events now.
