Title:
Progress bar based on Institution selected preferences

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  In Progress

Bug description:
The idea is to take anzeljg's Progress bar plugin, which has static
set of artefacts that it observes and based on those artefacts it
calculates the Profile completeness. The plugin could be extended in a
way to implement page/dashboard for institution admins which would
list all available artefacts and the admins would select which
artefacts should count towards Profile completeness for their
  institution.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1269411] [NEW] Tutor rights but can't edit group pages

2014-01-15 Thread Gordon McLeod
Public bug reported:

Hi,
As everyone assigned as a group admin on Mahara gets notifications when people
request group membership we've tried switching staff to the tutor role in
course groups, with the permission set 'everyone except ordinary members can
edit'
The staff are seeing the edit buttons, but when they click on artefacts to edit
they are unable to make changes - eg to amend an existing text box. The text
box opens but displays oddly and says 'the text you have selected is not
editable' (see screenshot attachment). (Mahara version 1.63, LAMP environment).

Thanks, Gordon.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1267861] Re: Page shared to group: notification to page owner

2014-01-15 Thread Tony Butler
Hi Aaron,

Certainly that's one way of looking at it, but I think it would be
better to simply display a message at the top of the page to inform the
user that the other group members had been sent a notification. I think
sending a notification to the owner of the page being shared could
potentially be quite confusing - it just seems wrong to notify a user
that they now have access to a page they already had access to.

I've submitted a patch for review at
https://reviews.mahara.org/#/c/2934/ to exclude the owner from the
notification.

Cheers,
Tony

Title:
Allow /local and custom theme override of Plugin templates

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
One of the handiest features for site admins to tweak their Mahara
site without making hacks that make upgrades difficult, is the
relatively obscure local theme overrides feature:
  https://wiki.mahara.org/index.php/Customising/Themes/1.2#Local_theme_overrides

Theme support is there, but you have to put the theme template
dirctories under the plugin's own theme directory. i.e.
  artefact/internal/theme/primary/static/templates/content.tpl . So,
this is handy for plugin authors, but not for custom theme developers.

  I propose the following:

  1. We allow for /local overrides of plugin templates. The path should
  be local/theme/templates/{plugintype}/{pluginname}/{template} . Or in
the case of plugins that live underneath other plugins (i.e.
  blocktypes under artefacts)

local/theme/templates/{plugintype1}/{pluginname1}/{plugintype2}/{pluginname2}/{template}.

  So:

  local/theme/templates/artefact/internal/content.tpl
  local/theme/templates/artefact/internal/blocktype/textbox/content.tpl

  2. For custom themes, we take a similar approach:
  theme/{themename}/static/templates/{plugintype}/{pluginname}/{template}

  theme/aaronstheme/static/templates/artefact/internal/content.tpl

theme/aaronstheme/static/templates/artefact/internal/blocktype/textbox/content.tpl

  And in order of precedence:

  1. /local theme overrides
  2. custom theme located under /theme directory
  3. theme template files locate under plugin's directory

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1268829] Re: When adding page without a title - Buttons incorrectly shown when displaying page

2014-01-15 Thread Aaron Wells
Hi Shane,

Well, if you look closely at the address bar when the Back button is
showing up, you'll notice that the URL has the extra bit new=1 on it.
This tells Mahara that the page has been newly created, and consequently
it shows a few things differently, like making the button say Back
instead of Edit this page, although the button does the same thing
regardless of the text.

I'm not familiar with the design decisions behind the new flag, and
what exactly it's meant to accomplish, though.

I'm unable to replicate the issue you describe, where the title is saved
even if you don't click save. Here's what I did:

1. Log in
2. Click on the Portfolio tab
3. Click Create page
4. Now I'm on a new page, called Untitled, in the Edit title and
description tab.
5. I change the title to Test
6. Without clicking the Save button, I click on the Edit content tab.
7. I see a Javascript warning telling me that I have unsaved data on the page
and confirming that I want to leave. I click Leave Page
8. Now on the Edit content tab, I click back to the Edit title and
description tab.
9. The title has not changed. It's still Untitled.

Are you doing something different?

On a related note, what theme are you using? Perhaps the duplicate
Back buttons are a custom theme problem?

Title:
When using small headers, action buttons break the logical ordering of
  the page

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
When viewing or editing a page (with small headers turned on) the
Edit this page and Back buttons come before the main navigation in
the HTML source. Since they're displayed in the top right corner and
look like they're after the navigation, this means the tab order
doesn't follow the logical ordering of the elements.

Moving the .fr.links div after #mainnav-container doesn't seem to
change the layout at all, so this should be a simple fix.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1266934] Re: Institution option for dropdown menus should take precedence over site option

2014-01-15 Thread Aaron Wells
There is a problem. If we make it that the Institution's drop down nav
checkbox always overrides the site's drop down nav checkbox, then
there is no need to have the site-level checkbox. The site setting will
have no effect except on users who are in No institution, and possibly
users who have selected a custom theme.

I think, it makes sense the way it currently is. That is to say, the
drop down nav checkbox can seen as part of the institution's theme
customization, so it only applies if they choose a custom theme.

We could make it less confusing by adding some JS so that the drop down
nav checkbox is disabled or enabled, depending on whether or not the
site default theme is selected.

Alternately, if we really want the institution setting to be able to
override the setting even for the site default theme, then we need to
change the checkbox to a menu so that an institution can indicate that
they don't want to override the site setting. In other words, it would
be a menu with the options Site default (Yes/No), Yes, and No.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1269665] [NEW] XMLRPC web services don't honor $cfg-usersuniquebyusername

2014-01-15 Thread Aaron Wells
Public bug reported:

As reported in the forum:
https://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=6042

If you set $cfg-usersuniquebyusername, then when a user roams across
from XMLRPC, we're supposed to identify their Mahara account by finding
the usr.username value that matches their username in the remote system.

This is in contrast to the normal method, in which we look up their
remote username in the auth_remote_user table, and use that to map them
to a Mahara user.

The problem is that many of the XMLRPC web services methods, used by the
Moodle plugins, call a method api/xmlrpc/lib.php :
find_remote_user($username, $wwwroot);. And that method calls
User-find_by_instanceid_username(), a method which relies on the
auth_remote_user table.

What we should do is, if $cfg-usersuniquebyusername is set,
find_remote_user() should call User-find_by_username(), the same as
what goes on auth/xmlrpc/lib.php : AuthXmlrpc-request_user_authorise()

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1269665] Re: XMLRPC web services don't honor $cfg-usersuniquebyusername

2014-01-15 Thread Aaron Wells
Marked low priority because it will only rarely cause any problems.
Normally, even if you have $cfg-usersuniquebyusername enabled, we
create auth_remote_user records for each user anyway, with the remote
username set the same as the user's Mahara username.

So, this bug will only cause problems if the auth_remote_user record is
missing for some reason, or if it has a value different than the user's
Mahara username.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1269411] Re: Tutor rights but can't edit group pages

2014-01-15 Thread Aaron Wells
Hi Gordon,

I was unable to replicate the error you've described, but I think I know
what has happened. Mahara actually has a permissions system for group
artefacts, with View, Edit, and Publish permissions for each role
in the group. View means you can place the artefact in group pages,
Edit means you can edit the artefact (as well as View it), and
Publish means you can use the artefact in your own pages (and also
View and Edit it).

When a new artefact is created for a group, these permissions are set
according to the value of the Create and edit pages setting for that
group.

I think what happened in your case was probably that you created the
group with Create and edit pages limited to Group Administrators, and
created a lot of artefacts (each text block creates a Note artefact).
All the artefacts created at this point would have their Edit and
Publish permissions limited to group admins.

When you later changed the Create and edit pages value to Everyone
except ordinary members, it did not change the permissions for the
existing artefacts.

You can verify if this is what's going on by seeing if a newly created
text block is editable by other staffers. You can also view and change
the permissions for the group's Note artefacts using the semi-hidden
group Notes page. Here's how to access it:

0. Log in as an admin in the affected group. (Other users can see the
group Notes page also, but since the permissions on these artefacts are
probably limited to admins, you'll need to be an admin to edit them)

1. While editing the text box block in the screenshot you sent me, click
the Use content from another text box link

2. The editing pop-up will expand to list the Notes in that group. In
the lower-right there will now also be a link that reads Manage all
text box content . Click that link.

3. You'll now be on the semi-hidden Notes for group name page, which
is equivalent to the Content - Notes page for an individual user.

4. Click on the edit icon for the note in question.

Below the note text field, you'll see a set of checkboxes for the
permissions.

Cheers,
Aaron

  Hi,

The staff are seeing the edit buttons, but when they click on artefacts to

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1267861] Re: Page shared to group: notification to page owner

2014-01-15 Thread Aaron Wells
Thanks for the patch, Tony. Before we merge it in, I'd like to discuss
the issue just a little bit more.

1. Are end users complaining about these messages?

2. Is the problem that they're confused by the message, like not sure
whether they still own the page or thinking it's someone else's page
that was shared?

3. Or is the problem just that they receive too many notifications, and
this is one more that they'd rather not get?

If the problem is that they're confused by the message, could we solve
it just by re-wording the message? Currently it reads:

 Subject: New page access
You have been added to the access list for the page page title by page
owner

I can see that this is kind of confusing, because it's a generic message
about page access and doesn't say anything about the group. Perhaps it
would be better if it was like this:

 Subject: Page shared with group
All members of the group group name have been granted access to the page
page title by page owner

When the page owner shares page with the group, and the group has a
setting to notify members when new page is shared with the group, the
page owner receives notification as well. This is not correct, the
page owner should be excluded from notification list if s/he is a
member of the group s/he shares the page with.
