I have a feeling you may be using an 'ATI' graphics card as I experienced
exactly the same problem. All you need to do is go into Control Panel, select
display settings and look at the advanced options for the ATI card. I think
there is a slide bar

What you are looking for is a Military State Secret. Export of such large-
scale maps and topographic information is treason in the Republic of Taiwan. I
would think it unlikely that you will be able to access such data, even while

Dear Listers,
I am wondering if any knows how I can get data for
Central America. I am specifically interested in
Costa Rica and Panama. However, I would still be
interested in other countries as well. It doesn't
matter what type or file format. Have a good

It will take a set of polylines, and produce a set of regions. Each
polyline need not form a closed object. The feature will take some set of
polylines (e.g., 3 or 4 polylines) and produce a region object
Oh I don't know, we Canadians have "a major nuclear power (with missiles)
next door that tends to rattle sabres", and we're still pretty free with our
geographic data :)

It has, in fact, rather little to do with missiles. Rather, this is
'normal' for a country where all mapping is in the hands of the military.
Somehow the jacks in uniform imagine that keeping 'walking around type

I thought North Hollywood, CA was below the 49th parallel?
And there is a major missile rattling venue right up the road from here.

G'day fellow mappers,
Slightly off the MapInfo topic here, but does anyone know how to import .pdf files
back into MSOffice 97 Applications like Word etc...
Hi Alistair!
I use to grab the graphics from acrobat reader, there are some selection

I too am trying to get my PDF files to work in a Office product (Access). I
use a hyperlink in the Access table. When the end user clicks on a
particular map they want, a form is opened with a Acrobat icon shown. You
cannot click on the icon, it is just there. I have to click the design
What version of Acrobat Reader are you using. I have Acrobat 4.0 and
Acrobat Reader 4.0 and both seem to be missing any way of selecting
graphics. I remember being able to do it perhaps using Acrobat Reader 2 or
possibly 3. But it is gone in version 4.

Mike,
In order to do this you need two things. First, Acrobat REader v4.0. 3.x
will not work. Second you need the Acrobat SDK which you can get on Adobe's
web site. It has some good data on controlling Acrobat using OLE.
I have not done this Access, but I have in Visual Basic and it should work
Mats,
I happily stand corrected. You are right about the graphic select tool, I
had been looking for it and neglected to try the text select tool hold-down.
Now that I know it is there, I can see the small black triangle in the
corner of the Text Select Icon indicating the flyout nature of
