Mappers,
I'm having a problem with MapBasic. Is it possible to create a drop-down
list within a dialog box of files currently open. From what I gather,
drop-down boxes (popupmenu) seem to be pretty static, and I can't seem to
find a way of making it list files 'on the fly'. If anyone could help
People,
I'm sure there's an easy answer to this one. How can I draw a line a
specified length/distance, say 1.75km?
TIA,
Tom

After a plethora of responses, I now feel like the only person on the list
who didn't know this one. For those of you who also don't know, the answer
is:
- draw a line
- double-click on it
- enter the correct length in the dialog box
Another method, and far more accurate, is to use the Cogo
MI-L'ers,
A colleague of mine was trying to draw a line (using the line tool) from one
point to another. The problem was, MI drew the line from the centre
outwards, much like the radius/marquee select tool. It was almost as if it
wanted to draw a circle but only with a line. All very strange.
MI-Listers,
Okay people, how much do you know about Date functions in MI? Is it possible
to select a row from Table1 where the date is within 10 days (for example)
from another row in Table2? As far as I can tell, I can only select rows
based on month, day of the week, day or year.
Thanks in
List,
Does anybody know what the projection system used in Morocco is?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Dearest MapInfo users,
I have a problem that's been plaguing me for a few days now. I have a table
with two columns, one containing an ID and the other a date. Most of the IDs
appear more than once, with different dates each time. What I need to find
out is the earliest and latest date for each
List,
The solution that I finally used was from Peter who suggested the following
(as did others):
"Your query can be done by using the following SQL statement
(assuming the columns are called ID and Date) :
Select Columns : ID, Count(*), Min(Date), Max(Date)
From Table :

Thanks to all those who helped me with my node snapping dilema (Steve W,
Jacques, Jason, Juan,Steve S, Butian). The problem turned out that they were
in different projections, so I simply resaved one of the tables to the
correct projection and everything is now working fine.
Thanks again to
Dear list,
Just a quick question regarding snapping to nodes.
What is the extreme limit of MI's snapping abilities? I'm trying to snap one
boundary to another one, with 'SNAP' turned on (the snap tolerance doesn't
make a difference here!) but when zoomed in you can clearly see that the two
Dear list,
Hopefully a simple one here:
I'm trying to edit a table, but when I do I get an error message saying that
someone else is editing the table so I can't do anything. Trouble is, no one
else has the table open. I've even saved the table under a different name
and it still doesn't work.
List,
Thanks for the help recently for my two questions regarding buffers. Here
are the oringinal questions and a selection of the answers received:
Q 1 - I have 2 tables, one with burst records (point) and the other with
pipes (line). I have created a buffer around the points (20m) so that I
Dear list,
I have buffers that I created around points. What I wish to do is place the
point ID onto the associated buffer. Update column works fine for most of
them, but where I have 2 or more point/buffers in the same place, only one
of the point IDs is attached to all of the buffers. Is there
Dear List,
I would like to have a couple of map windows open, each showing different
views (locations) of the same map. When I do Ctrl-F to find a point in one
map window, all of the other map windows also change their view to centre on
the same point. This happens both when I clone a view and
List members,
I have two tables, one containing points, the other lines. I have already
created a column in the point table containing the ID of the nearest line.
What I would like to do is select a point, and the associated line would
become highlighted. Does anyone know if this is possible or
Title: MI - selecting number within text
Dear list,
Second problem in two days, so here goes.
I have a character column, although some of the records have numbers in them. How do I go about just selecting those records with a number in the text?
My records look something like this:

Dear list,
How do I go about selecting all of the text objects within a layer so that they can be deleted?
TIA,

Title: RE: MI - selecting text objects
Dear all,
Thanks for the answers to date. Both Chris Perry and Brian Forrester werre on the right track, although Bob Young offered another solution. Anyway, here's the one that worked for me:
Assuming your MpInfo table is called YOUR_TABLE , Just use

Dear all,
Does anybody out there know of an MBX that will find the nearest line to a point?

Dear all,
Has anyone out there successfully linked an Excel table to MI (and
vice-versa)? Unfortunately we can't use Access because we use many
formulas to calculate the data, and since the data is constantly
changing we can't just open up the Excel table in MI. Anyone got any
ideas?
TIA
Dear list,
Is it possible for MI to create contour lines? I need to produce a
map showing different rainfall ranges across an area, and thought
this would be the best way.
All help appreciated.

Dear list,
Thank you to all those who responded to my question. It wouls appeat
that one of MI's shortcomings is that it can't create contours, and
the suggested solution from just about everyone was to purchase

Dear list,
I have a little query regarding fitting a straight line to an arc
(line with a bend). We extract data from one source, and wish to
overlay it to existing sewer records. However, since some of the
sewers have bends in them, and we only have a start and finish point,
is there any
