Re: Re: Re. MI dxf-export
OK the header contains useful information but also all the entities has their layer name (flag 8 if not remembering false..) So mapinfo can import by those flags .. One reason at least; DXF Headers are useful for importing multiple Autocad layers (from a single DXF file) into different Mapinfo .TABs (I'm sure it's the Header section that tells Mapinfo what layers to expect). - If you really want layer-name as an attribute, import your DXF file into multiple tables, , add a layer-name variable to each .TAB, then combine your tables. DXF files output by other programs tend only to have the Entities section and can seem somewhat simplistic but a true Autocad DXF file is a thing of beauty (in a nerdish, anorak kind of way). e.g. The Entities section of a DXF file holds font information as a font-code and size: the DXF Header stores all the other text font details (so that it is only written once, not once for every text-object). Look at a MIF file with "Font ("Arial",1,0,0)" writen for each text-object - this could be a single character in a DXF file. Don't do DXF's down, it's just that Mapinfo isn't all that good at using the information that's in there! Regards, Brian Forrester WoodMac Glossary Entities - anything drawn in Autocad, i.e. lines, text, symbols etc. Previous Message.. MapInfo needs full header section , but why? None of the programs exports data to DXF properly as much as I know, because DXF is very stupid and lots of things are messed So header section should be IGNORED by MapInfo to read full content and also there should be some checkboxes to sotre layer name as an attribute, . DXF also misses CAD attributes such as color etc.. Beside MIF is a super exchange format .. -- To unsubscribe from this list, send e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put "unsubscribe MAPINFO-L" in the message body, or contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

MI MB Excel ODBC Syntax needed
Hi there I have tried for some time to find the syntax for linking via ODBC to a specific column in a specific sheet in an Excel Workbook, but have been unable to find the correct syntax. To demonstrate what I'm looking for, here is an example: If I was to link to e.g. the table GISRMT in an Oracle database the syntax would be something like: server link table "select * from GISRMT" using "DSN=ODBC_ORACLE; SRVR=SRV1; UID=ITSME; PWD=MYPWD" Into "GISLOC" file "C:\GISLOC.TAB" (where I have defined the ODBC connection DSN: ODBC_CONN in my Control Panel - 32bit ODBC) '*** But when I need to link to a specific sheet in an Excel workbook, I can't find any reference on how to select, e.g.: server link table "select (here I would like to specify my sheet and maybe even a field in this sheet) " using "DSN=ODBC_EXCEL; SRVR=SRV1; UID=ITSME; PWD=MYPWD" Into "GISLOC2" file "C:\GISLOC2.TAB" (where I have defined the ODBC connection DSN: ODBC_EXCEL in my Control Panel - 32bit ODBC) Is there anyone who knows the correct syntax ? I have tried to 'spy' on how MapInfo does this, but the Link ODBC table procedure uses Dim - Undim on the syntax strings, so I can't view them after them procedure has finished. Re: MI FREE Y2K Unit Mapbasic Code
http://www.users.bigpond.com/rambia/index.html I've been doing a little web page maintenence today. Added Spatial News to my News section, updated a link to a remote sensing site, and added the above-mentioned Y2K utility from RAMBIA to the Shareware section. http://hello.to/maps or http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/mipage.html Your suggestions for web page improvements are welcome. Won't necessarily take 'em, as I'm pretty particular about it, but I try to consider all requests. (My page is fairly large, and I tend to be reluctant to add things to it, but will do so when something strikes me as a must-have.) MI Re-Displaying a Legend Window
Hello everyone, I have another simple one for you!! After I create a legend for a particular layer, I can not get the legend to reappear after clicking on the legend button!! Am I doing something wrong here? I played around with the legend manager a little bit and tried it again and still nothing!! Can someone give me a quick fix on the problem? Also, I do not have much programming experience but would love to learn how! Does anyone know of any publications that could help me get started so I can use MapBasic to my advantage?? Thanks again! MI Calculating Distance
I have a database of about 2000 +- customer accounts, and another database of all our service locations. I need to know the nearest service location for each of these customers. Is there a mapbasic program out there that will calculate the distance and then sort the table from near to far from each particular service location. Or at least some thing close. I have experimented with the 3.0 bundle of object distance, I need a little more than that. From, Gary Talbott [EMAIL PROTECTED] HAVE A GREAT DAY ! ___ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. MI Need to print table in columns in Layout
I am trying to print a map that has a road index. The problem comes in trying to get more than one column from the table. I want multiple columns on one side of the county map. I have tried to take the table to MS Access 97 and print a report with multiple columns to my plotter. My intention was to print the index on a sheet that would fit it and the map. Then I could manually load the sheet back in the plotter and plot my map from MapInfo layout window. Sounded great to me until I tried to print or preview the table in MS Access 97. It will not let me print to anything larger than 22 inches. Does anyone know of a way to trick Access to allow this or of any program that will let me print columns on paper larger than 22". MI Printing Large Raster on HP750C Plotter
I know this question has probably been asked a thousand times but here it is again. I searched the Archives but found little. I cannot print a large raster file on my HP750C. I am running MI v5.5. Re: MI MAPublisher info?
I'm using it, and I must say I can't "map" without. I know you can do nice and fast things in MapInfo's Layout, but when it comes to pressing/printing/distribution and so on you really need MAPublisher. It may take a little more time to do maps in Adobe Illustrator (via MAPublisher) than in MapInfo-Layout, but the output is great: - CMYKcolors and EPS-files, just like the professional do it. - PDF-files to post to Internet etc. About the price: I've already eared that money many times since installing the "plug-in".after all the cost is about the same a graphic designer takes for 2-3 hours of work Best reg.
