I have done it in the opposite direction when taking low res multispectral
and fusing it with panchromatic data and bringing it back into MI. In
general though, you should clip out what you need and modify the pixel
coordinates by subtracting. That way, you can avoid loss of resolution and
I ran across a bug in where MI crashes if you close the map window after
using a custom tool. I think that was 3.0. Does anyone know if this has
been fixed, or if there is a list I can check somewhere?

I know it's not MapInfo related, but since many MapInfo users are also
ArcView users, I thought this might help some people.
Dear ArcViewer,
This message comes to you either because we have corresponded within the
past
year about ArcView or you have made an interesting inquiry on
I seem to remember having that problem way back in the days of Win 3.1 and
MI 2.1. Excuse me, it's time for my nap.

Is there any way that you can get any raster file into MapInfo in real
world coordinates without going through a laborious registration process or
manually creating the tab file?
How about any programs that convert GeoTiff headers into MI headers?
Will sum.
The Georeg mapbasic tool is telling me "The specified file does not contain
valid registration information", and, well, it does:

I posted the same question yesterday, except my source was ENVI. Again, ArcView
had no problems. A few people suggested Worldreg, and tfwreed, but you can just
create the tab yourself. Open the images to create a *.tab file. Get the
projection statement from the prj file. Using the following:
Programs generally don't create DEMs, they read them.
Are you referring to the manipulation of DEMs? Perspective viewing? Speed?
Quality of shaded maps or contours? Interpolation of a surface from a few XYZ
points?
Anyway, be sure to consider some image processing packages.
What is the difference between an image and a Grid? One is derived and one
is imported? Aren't they both just 2D (or more) arrays of numbers? Color
values reference the object. You can analyze these numbers to extract and
classify the object, like on the X-files last night when the FBI agent used
It sounds like you are making the distinction that a Grid file can have
character attributes while an image can not. Well, the character
attributes in a "Grid" are kept in a separate table and linked anyway, so
they should compress the same. If you compress numeric data, you stand to
loose just
There is a freeware program called ghostscript that will do it. If you do a web
search it should show up. Open the image and save as .eps. It's also good for
creating jpgs from layouts.

I am unclear on the ability of MI/MapX to store attribute data in a remote
database. When you use "File save as" and select a MDB or dbf file, no dat file
is created. When you open a DBMS table into MapInfo, MI makes a .dat file.
So, can you attach to a table in another database without
