My brother has a 300CD with a 617.912 and writes,
I am starting to look around for sources for a replacement engine for
our Benz or having the current engine rebuilt. Is there anything I
should watch out for? The engine is a 5 cylinder non turbo diesel.

The ratio is not possible to change, its a fixed amount. The ratio 22:1
means that when the piston is at the bottom of the stroke it moves up
and compresses that amount of space into the 1 so to speak. Its
determined by the stroke.

matching blue 87 300d sitting in his driveway...hasn't moved it in a while
