One the W124 there is an external link to the left side flap, and a
link between the two. It has a plastic swivel on it that breaks. I
drilled a hole through the two parts and looped a wire through, works
fine on the TE.
I'm not sure what the exact arrangement on the W126 is, but I'd suspect
The vacuum servo works OK. As Jim mentioned, the linkages are inop. But
what do the linkages look like and how does one get to them?

The floor heat flaps on my 82 300SD move freely and blow closed whenever the
blower is running. The vacuum element and lever that are supposed to
control these flaps work normally, at least visually. In guess there is a
lever or gear assembly that is supposed to control those flaps and it has

I wish you luck but when I tried fooling with these hoses on my
83 SD it turned out to be a major PIA. It looked like the
Blizzaks are the best (IMHO), but I also had cheap winterguards on my 126-
and they worked very well.
If you choose Blizzaks , you cannot install just two because the car will be
unstable on dry pavement. I have personal experience with this on my W202 C280
plus a friend's Supra.

The cap opening shows both chambers on some, but I think on that one
(sort of triangular dual tank?) you just fill up the front one until it
overflows into the rear chamber. Make SURE the rear chamber always has
fluid in it, else you just pump air into the lines.

Check the temperature switch -- I don't remember if it's open cold or
closed cold, (probably closed) -- if not working, you may not get
enough cold enrichment or the high idle.
