He had the key on for over an hour (doing what I don't know), and he
noticed that a relay had burned up under the hood.
Could be worse. I did that on the 380SL, and the thing that
burned up under the hood turned out to be the ignition module.
Fortunately there was a same-vintage sedan in the
replace all the fuses if it hasn't been done for 10-12 years. They get
hairline cracks that are almost impossible to see. When an electrical
device is turned on it arcs and stops working until it cools and maes
contact again.
Marshall suggested changing all fuses every 15 years IIRC. Might
the control cable is out of adjustment.
But all the other shifts seem fine. I thought a badly
whacked cable resulted in across-the-board bad shifting?
I didn't notice anything particularly strange about the
cable, I know that it _is_ hooked up for example.

How do I test bearings? Jack up the car and wiggle the wheel? Maybe
they're just set loose...
That's how your highly-trained inspection station does it!
They also shouldn't make that dry bearing sound when
you spin the wheel.

Yes, indeed, if a bearing is bad enough to replace, so are the races. I
used to (45 - 50 years ago) drive my Chevy races out using a piece of wood
as a punch - very carefully - always worked great for me. I've never
removed a Mercedes race, though - lucky enough to not have to yet.

Don't know how good those things work. When working by myself I find
that either reverse pressure or pressure on the master cylinder is
the only way that works. the threads on the bleeders always seem to
let to much air in for suction on the bleeders to work well. So I

I think those pads are a scam. They're so hard they seem to wear the
rotors just as fast as the pads! It's a double plus for them- they sell
you some cheap pads and offer a lifetime warranty, and you come back a
year later and buy a whole new set of rotors from them! You're
guaranteed to buy
