To me, hydrogen only makes sense as energy storage, not as a source. Think of it as a battery. You use intermittent power such as solar or wind to make hydrogen gas that can be stored, transported, and used when and where needed. The problem is (as I understand it) that so far, splitting water

Yes it's such a problem that it has been known and studied for years and the salmon keep coming back. More seriously, it's apparently finally been found that a specific chemical used as an antioxidant in the rubber is toxic to the salmon. So, perhaps a substitute can be found that isn't so toxic.
