That was nice Wilton.
Sadly, we never seem to learn from past mistakes.
I am in the process of reading a trilogy of books about WWII by Rick
Atkinson. The first (An Army at Dawn) is about North Africa, the second

Viet Nam and Afghanistan share some some characteristics that should
make a thinking person hesitate to bite on them -- both of them have
broken many armies and many plans, and have never stayed occupied for
very long. Viet Nam was where the Chinese empire stopped, several
times, and both
on lies and 'cause
Saddam had tried to kill Boy Bush's Daddy.

Well put, yes Vietnam was lost after WW1 when greedy big nations did not
want to let go of their stuff.
This is particularly disappointing insofar that France and the US are
both big champions of self rule and democracy.
Even after WW2 when France had a taste of what it is like to be occupied.

I agree with Mitch. I put in a 4-unit mini-split heat pump/AC system in
my addition, my HVAC guy is supposed to be coming sometime this week to
get the lines connected and leak tested, and when I get the new power
line run I can power it up. Mine is a 36k BTU outdoor unit with 2-9k
and 2-12k
Cooled air is heavy, so AC unit should be mounted as high as possible. High
discharge of cold air will disperse across the area and displace warm air
as it falls to the floor. The warm air will be vented by the return air for
the AC unit. Your system effective cooling will be more satisfactory.
Cooled air is heavy, so AC unit should be mounted as high as possible.
But if it also heats then the opposite is true. I suggest a ceiling
fan, which will take care of wrong-sex air. A low-mount wall pump would
be more aesthetic, heat would be good as-is, and a ceiling fan, even on
its own,

If your manual J calc (a conservative calculation) came up with 18k, why did you
install 36k? Seems like an outside unit that can put out 18-24k at
I like to have some margin. Plus the way these things are set up for 4
head units you can get a smaller outdoor unit. And the space is such
that I think having the 2 big units for the loft (which is open to the
kitchen below) and the kitchen, where I am going to put a big cooktop
in, ovens

Yes - a ceiling fan is part of the equation - mixes all that air together
and provides surface cooling on the skin.
Lowes has a cheap window AC/Heat pump/elect. strip heat unit for $435 now
that is big enough - might try it.
Did you mean to say heat pump? Looks like a window AC with a built in
cheap electric heater to me. Or is that what you want?

It does look that way, doesn't it?
If it is just an A/C with strip heater, I'd much rather have this:
It states on the box (which you can't see on the web site) that it's a heat
pump, and on the FAQs there are a couple of answers stating that it both
reverses as a heat pump, and has a 3500W strip for below freezing temps.
