Yes, and far, far too many of them have amplified exhaust. Love VDubbs if
you want, but few things are more irritating than amplified VW Bug exhaust.
And yes, the Baja is quite popular in the desert (what some may know as a
dune buggy or the like). These are what started the stinger unmuffled

I think of the Baja Bug as a VW with fiberglass front end and bonnet, jacked
up suspension, big rear wheels, and high exhaust. Still has the VW body shell
and floor pan, and

About twenty years ago when the vast majority of them had either rusted
away or caught fire. They are VERY scarce, hence the high price for
one in good shape.
German autobody rust syndrome got most of them.
