I've been somewhat disappointed with the last two sets of Michelin MXV4 tires on my '84 300D as they were rather noisy (squealing) at minimally aggressive cornering no matter the tire pressures. I recently purchased the Kumho Solus KR21 tires and so far I'm quite pleased though I haven't put

I had a tire going flat slowly, pulled it off to take it to the tire shop, looks old and cracked and like the tread is starting to separate at the edge. I thought I saw a nail but digging at it a bit it looks like a steel belt, YOW. Costco has a Michelin X in 195 70 R14 for $316 for a set,

That looks like what is happening to the X ones on there now. One has been losing air slowly, thought it was a nail, took it off and close inspection shows the belt on both edges starting to separate. Maybe 3/16 - 1/4 tread left, but they are dried and cracked too, so probably fairly old.
