Must be a problem with the motor.

good measure. Now only the driver side rear responds to switch from the
console, while the rear switches do provide window action.

Might be, but why would the ground fail now, while it worked the day I
installed the fresh motor?

Remove door skin. See that both motor terminals have +12V on them
normally, measured to the door frame metal. Use a test lamp, that puts a
load on it to make sure it's actually got current ability and not just
leakage. One or the other terminal is grounded to make the motor go,
