Use Hylomar on the replacement head gasket. Be careful when you turn the engine by hand, the spring on the vacuum pump causes it to lurch forward. Remove the pump if it's a problem. You can do the head/head-gasket with the car in the engine. You'd have to pull it to replace the connecting rods. It

Don't forget that the brushes unit is also the voltage regulator. I like to check the voltage output with my multimeter at the battery while the engine is running. If the voltage is about 14 volts then the alternator/brushes/regulator should be ok. Greg Fiorentino '85 300SD '80 240D 4 spd.

Well I changed the fluid and filter today, no change, still will not upshift. When I pulled the pan, there was a little sliver of white plastic in there, not sure what that was or where it came from. So I guess I need to find me some guages to check the pressure on it. -- Kaleb C.
