As I recall, this bolt screws into threads in the filter. Maybe you have a
bad filter?

As I recall, Marshall used to say the steering box geard seldom wore out
unless over-tightened. I also seem to recall that the little flex joint was
often the cause of lose steering. My 123 drove much better after replacing
the steering damper; the old one bounced like a spring.

This would be a free part at any reasonable junkyard in person, and
maybe $5 shipped. There are junkyards in Oregon that probably have 20
cars with this bolt, and would certainly ship if you called them.

What's the chance that Andrew has an early (123) type filter and
since his car is an 85, it has the later OM603 type fuel filter? (and
bolt!) I believe the later bolt would go in the filter and act as
though it is stripped or cross threaded.

Our BRV, a 1989 Chevy Beauville with a six cylinder engine, wouldn't start
this morning, so I took our '82 240D/3.0 and left Shirley without
transportation. That will work again tomorrow, but Wednesday she needs the

There is the early style for 617, then the last style which he has. Its
not the same as the 603 so it probably just a 84-85 thing.

bent in via a little bit of smoke wrench and hammer
