I'm looking for insights from someone who has dissected a 126 heater system.
The floor heat doors on my 1982 300SD move freely as if there were no
linkages and they blow shut whenever the blower is on. The associated
vacuum motor works fine but the internal linkages that control these doors
My '83 240D has the original 27 year old back brake lines, I think. An indy
who replaced the back calipers for my wife was supposed to have replaced
them, but if he did, he got the connections to the metal brake lines the
tightest I've ever seen. I've treated these upper connections with
That's interesting Tom-I have never seen one myself. Maybe we could start a
new award category at the NE chowdah fest-rarest MB-That one would put Curt
in the running. Curt-maybe you could look at it tomorrow when you come to
pick up the 240D.

There are two 230Es for sale currently! Who da thought! I was inadvertently

I was just thinking about replacing the line on mine. My local
snowmobile/dirtbike/motorcycle etc shop has 2 grades of 1/4 and/or 5/16 fuel

The 2.3 Euro is an M102 like the W201 engine, but that is the end
of the similarity. The Euro engine with a 5 speed will be quick, fun
to drive and economical. We loved our 230TE 123. I had as much zip
as the 88 300TE 124. I highly recommend it.
the M102 has a single row timing chain.
23/25 on the road when you factor in the cheaper price of gas is as
good as 26-28 on Diesel.

I have a 124 with 350,000, and it's as tight as the one with 180,000. I do
have realistic expectations of going over 400,000 in a 124
There seem to be fewer rust issues with the 124 than the earlier models, and
rust has been the number one killer of my previous MBs. Drunks hitting the

Can anyone suggest a different method to try? I've never heated a

Empty them, then heat away. You really don't want to have to cut
off buggered screw
A good alignment shop should have one, and there are Mercedes certified ones
out there.
See if you can find a non-dealer collision repair facility (some dealers farm
out collision work) that has been certified by Mercedes. Either have them
align it or ask who they send their alignment work
I use heater hose and replace it when it starts to seep.

Well today I recovered the refrigerant back out of the suburban again.
Machine said it recovered about 2.5 lb out. It was either way
overcharged or had a bunch of air in it as you remember. Now this
machine, when its recovering, puts it in the recovery tank Its supposed
to shut off
My request is for anyone who has dissembled on rod these to describe
the
mechanism that's supposed to connect the vacuum pod to the floor vent
doors.
There's a schematic diagram of sorts in the HVAC manual,
is there not?

The 123 to 124 transition was arguably the biggest generational
leap Mercedes has ever had from model to model--superior in every way.
Interior space?
But c'mon. The 123 is the American Gothic grandma standing next to

Actually, brother and sister.
It's okay
On the W124 there is a rod to the driver's side and a link inside the
box across to the passenger side.
Not sure if the system is similar on the W126 though, but I would try
to see if the servo link is connected -- if not, the flaps are free
to move by themselves, they are not spring
So, wonder why that machine was for sale? ;

Empty them, then heat away. You really don't want to have to cut
off buggered screw fittings and then re-form the double-flare on
