I was thinking the same thing although I've never seen one for sale that wasn't
rusted to pieces... I'd probably be more into it for $5k.

I held onto my Yahoo account long enough that we figured out a solution. It
seems like Gerry will need to go to his ISP to get his problems fixed though.

So the Jetta has passed 250,000 miles and although I wanted to change the oil
at 250,000 miles I didn't get around to it. Yesterday I had some time and got
to changing it. The Jetta is a bit of a PITA for this, you can't pull it up
through the dipstick like on a MB and the car is so low I can't

Well then let me insert some. I LOVE driving the car. Its quick, it handles
well, and its comfortable. The engine is TINY, puts out 90hp 150lb/ft and sips
fuel gently. When we went to Michigan last month we did 1500 odd miles with the
car loaded full and running 80+ mph it turned in 47mpg
I debated spearing the thing, I did that on a Mazda years ago. That one
shredded pretty badly and I was worried about ripping it completely to shreds
without it coming off when it finally came loose. I was doubly worried here
because theres very little space to work with...

Mine is a '98 Jetta TDI. Its an A3 body which got the TDI only in '98 and '99
until '99.5 which started the A4.
I like the A3, its a little tinnier than an A4 but its easier to work on. It
requires a timing belt at 60,000 as opposed to 100,000 in the A4 and later but
it costs HALF as much to do
Wow, I would love the fuel economy. Wonder whether JiffyLub would charge

This dovetails exactly with the things I heard and saw when I was looking a VWs
a few years ago. I believe there was a gas engine they had in the Jettas that
was VERY sensitive to the type and viscosity of oil use, and if this was
ignored would cause the engine to grenade prematurely.
