Unlikely. Same wires for fore and aft (reversed polarity). But flex cable
can work itself out of the socket to the point it only works in one
direction.

A new, factory, (not rebuilt), Bosch alternator for an '83 300D
came with no half-moon key slot in the shaft. All else is the same
as the defective alternator.
Factory booklet that came with alternator simply says to be sure

Basically as tight as you can get it with a new spring washer fitted.
Had an pulley come loose because supposed auto sparky used old spring
washer, which was doing a very good impersonation of a flat
