I have a saw that behaves similarly to yours. If I hit it with the Seafoam
(like 1oz per tank) and run it hard it'll clear up for awhile. I never did
figure out the problem.
My Husky ran poorly last season, turned out it needed gas lines, they were
collapsing under suction.

When we had adopted John Deere industrial engines for our smaller ( 200kW)
generators, I got to spend several weeks at John Deere's training facility in
the Quad Cities. Amazing place, full of all of their agricultural and
construction equipment.
One thing I found interesting:
John Deere,
Never had to buy one for a Focus so I don't have a point of reference. I was a
little surprised, as I know my former Crown Vic had them and they were only
like $50 each.

On most saws it's shrouded so you can't grab it with pliers. Therefore you'd
have to slot the shroud to get in there to slot the screw heads.
