The "pursuit of happiness" in the Declaration started out as "property" but
got changed during the staffing process, allegedly to avoid interpretation

Yep. I was already driving cautiously and deliberately checking cross
traffic at every intersection, but now I feel nervous, and tremor of right
hand has increased significantly. The tremor does not affect driving - just
annoying. Before the accident, I could lay my right hand 3 o'clock on the
wheel and feel relaxed and comfortable. It's harder now to make my right
hand comfortable, relaxed and steady.

2016-06-07 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
The force of the impact on the other car was probably the same as a 35
to 45 mph crash into a parked blazer. Assuming you were going 45,(as
stated) then I call the villain at driving somewhere between 75 and
90 MPH. I truly beliece it was 90+ or - 5 MPH.

Did the airbags in the kia go off?

Wishing you a full recovery and a big win in court.

BTW, I thought it looked like you were driving a pickup. (windshield
forward in a blazer is the same as a pickup)

G Mann via Mercedes
June 7, 2016 at 3:28 PMvia Postbox

Astute call Andrew, on the airbags.. which did not deploy.. the impact
with

the wall was principally by the fender, outer front bumper end, which
sheared off, without triggering the air bags.. and the left front wheel..

By somehow avoiding head on impact with the corner of the block wall.. I
was spared the double injury of forward impact.

The car has a star.. in the tool kit in the back.. haha.. it's my Chevy
Blazer "run around town car" 4x4, 4 door.. pickup with permanent hard
shell

over the bed. It has a full frame under it.. which absorbed a massive
amount of the impact.. the other car was a 10 yr old Kia Spectra.. and
it's
crushed back to the A pillar.. bent the roof.. windshield , etc..
certainly

totaled..

OK.. thanks to everyone. Let's try this and see if it works.

Video from Black Box dash camera from 5 days ago when I got hit in the
rear

while driving at the speed limit. Car that hit me is certainly a total..
entire front crush area "crushed" .. my car may be repairable, the process
has only started.. but it and I are hurt... I left the scene in an
ambulance, the car on a flatbed.

The camera only gives a "forward view" of the crash.. I had made the
decision to purchase a second camera for the rear.. just had not ordered
it.. best plans of mice and men. I would love to have had a rear view
video

of the crash.. I suspect driver was on a cell phone or distracted..

On impact the car was driven 800+ feet, across oncoming traffic into a
block wall.. First 45 seconds of the video cover all that

THe OM616/617NA transfer pump (lift pump) is Bosch FP-K22MW2 or ten
digit 2 445 103 010. MB never did provide a kit in the USA, and I don't
now if Bosch ever did. I am thinking in the RTW, that a kit may be
available. has anyone ever seen a kit or have foreign contacts to
inquire about a kit for the pump?

Nothing turns up on fleabay except a pump body. That is the one part I
don't need.

The good news is that I took the 240D out tonight for a 2 mile run, and
now it runs fine. The apparent warning I had, but was unable to
attribute to any cause, is that at idle, especially when cold, the
engine would randomly miss at idle. The pump seemed to function
adequately at higher RPM, as on last thursday I ran it probably 60 miles
or so at highway speeds. It is the opposite of a obstructed filter, or
air leak which show up first at high speed or starting.

I was able to pump up fuel easily with the hand primer. It filled the
hose to the filter and I bled the air out there, then tightened the new
banjo fitting. I have been hoarding new clear fuel lines since 1999. I
put the one from the transfer pump to the filter on with the used pump.
Unfortunately the hand primer leaks when used. THe original was ok I
think. I may change that some day.

Has anyone seen exploded drawings of the pump or parts drawings? I'd
still like to figure out how they are made to see if I can repair the
old ones.

The fabric buildings are becoming very popular. Thye are popping up all
over the country. For a garage, shop, storage etc, they are great.
People build concrete or T treated lumber walls, then put the building
on top. They are warmer in the winter, lighter inside to work in the
daytime, and often cooler in the summer than alternatives. They can be
made rodent proof and bug proof. Many are being used for grain storage.

Re: [MBZ] Snook Needs Help!

2016-06-07 Thread Peter Frederick via Mercedes
Is that an expansion valve or an orifice tube/accumulator system? If
it's an orifice tube (a common system these days, cycles the clutch by
low side pressure) you will need to flush the whole system out if the
screen is plugged, replace the trashed compressor (where all the crap
came from) and put a filter in the high side line so it won't clog up
again.

Probably need a filter in the low side line as well since it's
impossible to flush all the crud out of a multi-tube type evaporator
-- no filter, you trash a new compressor right away and end up where
you started.

This is why my Volvo didn't have AC, too hard to find a compressor for
it.

Re: [MBZ] Snook Needs Help!

2016-06-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Compressor started to shuck it's self.. debris clogged the expansion
valve.. a known choke point on Ford systems.. or.. expansion valve simply
collapsed.. also known to happen..

If the expansion valve is clogged.. the coolant doesn't circulate, so the
compressor doesn't have anything to pump.. gauges sould show a high/low
split that isn't showing, If I read your posts correctly?

Lay your hand on the hoses with the compressor running.. should feel one of
them cooler.. not cooling.. it's not circulating.. Either way.. you have to
evacuate the system.. to open it and change out the expansion valve [which
has a screen built into it to capture debris.. if it's clean.. compressor
time.. or clutch time..

Clutch should be made to cycle with a 12 volt jumper wire, into the one
wire spade connector at back of clutch.. Apply 12 volts.. clutch should
lock up and turning compressor by hand will tell you if it's locked up..
[remove belt to do this].

HTH [Hope this Helps]

Re: [MBZ] Tropical Storm Colin

2016-06-07 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
All clear, all rubber tubes on passenger side attached to the sunroof
drains. I've tried sealing off the sunroof with tape over all the seams
and had no water entry, so I thought maybe I did have a sunroof drain that
was clogging and I had opened it up without realizing that it was clogged.

Apparently if leaves / dirt / etc go down the windshield gutter drains on
either side of the windshield, they can get deposited between fender liner
and body, and act like a sponge to encourage water to seep between body
seams into the passenger compartment. I'm going to make some time later
tonight to take a look.

Re: [MBZ] Dash camera crash video

2016-06-07 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
Wow! Glad you're not seriously injured or maimed or dead! Thanks for sharing.

Older brother was driving a 80's Mazda 626 with his infant son strapped into a
baby seat, and got hit pretty much exactly like you. Wisconsin country road at
night, the remains of the Mazda came to rest amidst a bunch of saplings, which
held the doors closed trapping them inside. Brother opened the sunroof and got
both of them out (see Wilton, sometimes a sunroof is useful!) and started
looking for the guy who hit him.

My brother's "blood was up" from the collision entirely the fault of the other
driver and then being trapped inside a car smelling gasoline, with his infant
son. Fortunately the search for the other party on a cold winter night took
long enough for him to cool off, at least cool enough that he didn't try to
hurt the other guy, who probably fell asleep and floored the accelerator until
he crashed.

Yes! Individual ownership of property is one of the key factors that has made
America (the U. S. part) very wealthy compared to the rest of the world.

The foundation of all wealth is land; free citizens who can create as much
wealth as they like with their land and the fruits of their labor will make ANY
country wealthy.

Taxes and regulations that infringe on that land and labor will decrease wealth.

Re: [MBZ] Snook Needs Help!

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
That one will show the pressure dropping when the clutch engages if it
is actually making the compressor compress. I think that is when it
sucks the gas in too, at least mine does that. Are you revving the
engine at 2000 rpm or so? AC on high, fan all the way up? You want the
compressor running always or most of the time, which it should do if it
is hot and you have things turned all the way up, and it needs some rpms
to get things compressing. At least that is how my systems work(ed).

If it is not really compressing I wonder if something in the system is
messed up, the valve (I forget what that is called, expansion valve?),
in which case it could just be circulating refrigerant and no cooling
going on.

Is the compressor compressing? The line should be cold if it is. If not, it
is not compressing, maybe the clutch is not actually clutching the compressor
shaft or something in that mechanism (or the compressor is shot)? Do you have
gauges (or the one on the can) to see if the pressures are changing when the
clutch engages? When I put in refrigerant and the clutch engages, the pressure
drops by maybe half when the compressor is working.

a/c working. I was converted to 134 a while ago. I noticed that the clutch
was spinning. So, I did some googling and found that I could jumper the Low
Pressure switch and the compressor should come on even if it is low on Freon.
It didn’t. I checked and there was no power to the Switch. So, I figured I
had a bad wire or short somewhere. I decided to go ahead and try to fill it up
anyway. I put some in and I have 40-45 pound of pressure (when it was almost
90 degrees outside). The compressor wasn’t turning. I checked the fuses and
they looked ago. I replace the fuse for the compressor anyway. I got out the
hammer and gave the compressor clutch a few whacks to see if I could get it
turning. It started moving and I tried another few whacks. It started turning
and was a little noisy. But, after a few minutes it smoothed out and was
spinning without any noise. But, no cold air. I have lots of air flow. But,
it was HOT. So, a/c has pressure, compressor is turning, but no cold air. I
am wondering if I have:

Some Air (rather than Freon) in the system?

A bad compressor?

A switch issue on the HVAC controls on the dash?

Or the blend door problem? I can switch the air flow from the vents to the
floor and up to the defrost. So, I think that means the blend door is okay.

Any thoughts?

Re: [MBZ] Dash camera crash video

2016-06-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Thanks, I join you in that.. I'm grateful the timing happened to be what it
was for oncoming traffic.. It could have gone so much more badly, so
easily..

If you pause the video at about 3 seconds post impact, from the rear, the
trajectory of the car is clearly centered on the corner post of the block
wall.. which I remember registering would be solid concrete with rebar, and
trying to gain enough control to avoid head on impact.. that worked...
somehow..

All those years of flying crop dusters and flight training that always
taught "fly the airplane all the way to the end of the crash" apparently
paid off, in reflex and response. Can't say the car was ever truly "under
control" once it absorbed the other cars energy, however.

There was a PGA golf thing down the road a coupla years ago, 3 or 4, and
MB was a sponsor. They had a load of Cs and Es and a few Ss all silver
for running the playas and VIPs around. They had them all parked at the
airport before and after, I guess the motor pool for running them back
and forth. I saw a parade of them running down the road one day, 30 or
so in a pack. They had a big tent set up at the venue, a few cars and
some displays on stuff. No clothing, though it probably would have been
a big hit over there among all the swells.

There was free parking at the remote lot for Benzes, I drove the old TD
over which I thought fit in quite well.

They're also not terribly theft proof... We're 3/4 mile from the road, the

Anyway this is a long term plan, storage for the new tractor and possibly a

Subject: [MBZ] FP-K22MW21 pump kit

still like to figure out how they are made to see if I can repair the
old ones.

OK.. thanks to everyone. Let's try this and see if it works.

Video from Black Box dash camera from 5 days ago when I got hit in the rear
while driving at the speed limit. Car that hit me is certainly a total..
entire front crush area "crushed" .. my car may be repairable, the process
has only started.. but it and I are hurt... I left the scene in an
ambulance, the car on a flatbed.

The camera only gives a "forward view" of the crash.. I had made the
decision to purchase a second camera for the rear.. just had not ordered
it.. best plans of mice and men. I would love to have had a rear view video
of the crash.. I suspect driver was on a cell phone or distracted..

On impact the car was driven 800+ feet, across oncoming traffic into a
block wall.. First 45 seconds of the video cover all that happened.. it
runs 2min 16 sec, before I shut the camera off.

I think the camera just paid for it's self.. Thought I would try to "share
the experience" .. Special thanks to Wilton.. since your crash event
triggered my decision to install the camera. Like you, it could have gone
so much worse, for example, if there had been oncoming traffic.. I missed
the next opposing car by about 12 seconds.. Likely it would have been fatal
for most, in that case.. with head on.

I'm very sorry for your wreck.
What kind of car were you driving?
What was the speed limit?
What kind of injuries did you sustain?

I wonder how fast the car behind you was going ...

Does the camera have internal battery power to run on? If so, you could
have removed it from its windshield mount and surveyed the situation and
the damage.

Yes, indeed.

Re: [MBZ] Dash camera crash video

2016-06-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Yes, just motoring along... driving the speed limit for the area... which
is 45 mph.. Head on a swivel, watching for side street cars that pull out,
etc.. and BAMMM.. from the rear.. if you turn up the sound, you can
clearly hear the impact and a huge "Grunt" from me as I felt the shot..

I have no idea how fast the car behind me was, but based on the energy
imparted on impact.. it had a pretty good delta P on me.. since we were
both traveling the same direction..

Like Wilton.. I expect to experience elevated caution, post crash.. As far
as the "junkyard dog lawyer" .. covered.. haha.. My claims of lost of
coitus function with my 2, 26 yr old mistresses however won't fly well at
69.. haha.. Might get challenged on that.. however.. I'm now walking with a
limp I didn't have and other indications of having had my bell rung.. Since
my plan is to live forever.. I'll either get better.. or learn to live with
it.. ;))

Soon, I hope.. I have Mercedes to work on... and restore..

Re: [MBZ] THIS ONE WEIRD TRICK LITERALLY CHANGED MY LIFE!

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
The one I'm using is a 100W equivalent, I think I got it at Costco. I
bought a bunch of them a year or two ago, I think they were like $6 or
so. I have been pleased with them except they aren't good for ceiling
fixtures as they are sorta heavy and a bit larger than a regular bulb.
I think they might be a bit sensitive to the heat inside the globe too.
But you can't buy 100W bulbs any more, so this is the way to go. But it
works great in the drop light.

Costco has a large selection of LED bulbs now, I don't think they have
the curlie fries any more.

And it will change yours too! You won't believe what happens next!

When RT of Charleston, SC was faced with a common problem that affects
all DIYers, he turned to this common item to solve his problem!

"I was frustrated with my drop light, that really wasn't a drop light,
you know, because every

time I dropped it, the light broke, so it was very frustrating for me in
doing chores around the house, working on cars, and so forth." So I
finally figured

out I needed to do something different to make my life easier. And the
one weird trick I discovered really changed my life. I was searching around

for another light bulb, and I was out of those "rough service" bulbs
that are supposed to keep working, even when you drop them, you know?
So I had a flash and picked up

an LED bulb I had in a cabinet. Those things don't have a filament that
can brake, so I thought, why not? I put that sucker in and PRESTO!!!
WALLAH!!! no more broken bulbs! It puts out good light and doesn't get
hot, and best of all IT WON"T BRAKE! This has changed my life, no more
frustrations, and my wife is happy she doesn't here any more cussing!
(Well, about the light anyway) So it changed both are lives and can
change you're's to!

So you're just motoring along at a reasonable constant speed minding
your own bidness and this creature just runs into the back of your car?
How fast was she going? How could she not see you? I know the answers
to the first and last (cranial/rectal inversion), I see the same
behavior around here all the time. What car were you driving?

You need to find some junkyard dog lawyer (Better Call Saul!) and make
her miserable idiot life even more miserable. You have considerable
pain, suffering, inability to "perform" in various ways, and some memory
issues, right? They found that in the ER (realizing that some effects

OK.. thanks to everyone. Let's try this and see if it works.

Video from Black Box dash camera from 5 days ago when I got hit in the
rear
while driving at the speed limit. Car that hit me is certainly a
total..

entire front crush area "crushed" .. my car may be repairable, the
process
has only started.. but it and I are hurt... I left the scene in an
ambulance, the car on a flatbed.

The camera only gives a "forward view" of the crash.. I had made the
decision to purchase a second camera for the rear.. just had not
ordered

it.. best plans of mice and men. I would love to have had a rear view
video
of the crash.. I suspect driver was on a cell phone or distracted..

On impact the car was driven 800+ feet, across oncoming traffic into a
block wall.. First 45 seconds of the video cover all that happened.. it
runs 2min 16 sec, before I shut the camera off.

I think the camera just paid for it's self.. Thought I would try to
"share
the experience" .. Special thanks to Wilton.. since your crash event
triggered my decision to install the camera. Like you, it could have
gone
so much worse, for example, if there had been oncoming traffic.. I
missed

the next opposing car by about 12 seconds.. Likely it would have been
fatal
for most, in that case.. with head on.

Re: [MBZ] Dash camera crash video

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
This one we have has a pretty wide angle lens so it covers quite a bit.
Banggood has some front/back cams that do both at once. Two of those
would work to get 360 deg but if you want outside the windows you would
need 3 I would think, a front/back and one on each side window just
looking one direction.

Yes.. camera give excellent quality,

Need four. One out the front. One out the back.
One at the passenger window (officers sometime walk up to that side, esp. on a
busy road).
One aimed at the drivers window.

Anyone know of such a setup? Cameras from Banggood or DealXtreme and make your

Thanks for the confirmation that the email google drive link actually
worked!

The people that instantly arrived on the scene and did things like direct

Yes.. camera give excellent quality, I think.. I have several hours of
driving with it on in both dark and daylight conditions.. resolution is
good enough to pull up license plate numbers if needed, even at night..
impressive, for the price.. My attorneys thought it was impressive... so
did my doctors.. ;))

Looks like I'm sold on having live video on board. Since we had several
involved in the discussion, I thought it would be perhaps helpful to do a
little "show and tell" from the live action point of view. It has 120
degree view on the lense.. I continue to be impressed with the clarity of
the side views.. Mount is a clamp on to the rear view mirror stem.. very
solid arrangement and it clears the windshield of yet another suction cup
mount.

2016-06-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Wilton,
Thanks.. the other driver walked out of the wreckage.. as did I.. no broken
bones.. but plenty of sore and pulled muscles.. Took the invite to go to ER
just to be sure.

On power issue.. I have been running just on lighter plug in power because
I "couldn't yet find the time to wire it into the key on circuit.." I'm
glad I did have it on.. you might wish to do that just for now.

OK.. thanks to everyone. Let's try this and see if it works.

Video from Black Box dash camera from 5 days ago when I got hit in the
rear

while driving at the speed limit. Car that hit me is certainly a total..
entire front crush area "crushed" .. my car may be repairable, the
process

has only started.. but it and I are hurt... I left the scene in an
ambulance, the car on a flatbed.

The camera only gives a "forward view" of the crash.. I had made the
decision to purchase a second camera for the rear.. just had not ordered
it.. best plans of mice and men. I would love to have had a rear view
video

of the crash.. I suspect driver was on a cell phone or distracted..

On impact the car was driven 800+ feet, across oncoming traffic into a
block wall..

Like you, it could have gone
so much worse, for example, if there had been oncoming traffic.. I missed
the next opposing car by about 12 seconds.. Likely it would have been
fatal

for most, in that case.. with head on.

Yes Ed,
In all the years as a member on this site, I've never posted a thread,
only

responded, because I have never been able to find a "post here" link from
the Home Page, if that's the right name for it.

I always just wrote it off as my own lack of "geekness" .. but now it
seems

there is perhaps some structural issue that keeps it from allowing access?

Above my pay grade in any case..

About a month ago.. I bought and installed one of the Black Box dash
cameras we spoke about in a thread.. 4 days ago, while driving the speed
limit down a straight stretch of highway.. I got hit in the rear with
enough force to drive the car 1000 ft forward, across oncoming traffic,
into a block wall all now on video, because the camera was on when
ever

the car was running.. Thought I would post a link of the crash, as it
happened, with sound from the built in mic in the camera, just so members
could see it..

The car that hit mine was totaled, mine can be repaired, maybe. The
lawyers

and doctors are ecstatic at having it all on video. The police are very
convinced of my version of the event after viewing the video.
I think the camera just paid for it's self.

No joy on being able to post a thread.. Ohhh well. It will keep for now.

2016-06-07 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
I bought an LED at our local hardware store a couple months ago, it ended up in
one of the fixtures I do video with, its pretty terrific...
Actually I've been very happy with all the LED bulbs I've bought for household
use. Of course none of them has cost less than $9 so it should be no surprise
they're way better than $2 CFLs...

[MBZ] Dash camera crash video

2016-06-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
OK.. thanks to everyone.

Does it really matter for USAmericans? Do we exist better because we

We think it is our land, or maybe we don't? taxes, rent, mortgage
interest, etc.
We think we have representative government that is better than the
Spain related system Grant explained. Perhaps we still have the same
structure of overlord (despised concept) as south-of-the-border
countries (Grant explanation). We live better, or, do we? I bet we
could carry this OT further... except for cynicism, of course.

Re: [MBZ] FP-K22MW21 pump kit

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
Years ago (this would be like 30 !!!) there was an injection shop in
Dorchester, MA that a buddy of mine took his VW RAbbit injection pump to
for a rebuild at some point. I remember him telling me they did all
kinds, diesels etc and it had been around a long time at that point. I
remember driving by the shop occasionally, it was just a nondescript
little building and I vaguely recall seeing a Bosch sign but I might be
imagining that at this point. Whether it is still there or not I would
not know, maybe a googly would show it?

THe OM616/617NA transfer pump (lift pump) is Bosch FP-K22MW2 or ten
digit 2 445 103 010. MB never did provide a kit in the USA, and I
don't now if Bosch ever did. I am thinking in the RTW, that a kit
may be available. has anyone ever seen a kit or have foreign
contacts to inquire about a kit for the pump?

Nothing turns up on fleabay except a pump body. That is the one part
I don't need.

The good news is that I took the 240D out tonight for a 2 mile run,
and now it runs fine. The apparent warning I had, but was unable to
attribute to any cause, is that at idle, especially when cold, the
engine would randomly miss at idle. The pump seemed to function
adequately at higher RPM, as on last thursday I ran it probably 60
miles or so at highway speeds. It is the opposite of a obstructed
filter, or air leak which show up first at high speed or starting.

I was able to pump up fuel easily with the hand primer. It filled
the hose to the filter and I bled the air out there, then tightened
the new banjo fitting. I have been hoarding new clear fuel lines
since 1999. I put the one from the transfer pump to the filter on
with the used pump. Unfortunately the hand primer leaks when used.
THe original was ok I think.I may change that some day.

Has anyone seen exploded drawings of the pump or parts drawings? I'd
still like to figure out how they are made to see if I can repair the
old ones.

Re: [MBZ] Snook Needs Help!

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
Is the compressor compressing? The line should be cold if it is. If
not, it is not compressing, maybe the clutch is not actually clutching
the compressor shaft or something in that mechanism (or the compressor
is shot)? Do you have gauges (or the one on the can) to see if the
pressures are changing when the clutch engages? When I put in
refrigerant and the clutch engages, the pressure drops by maybe half
when the compressor is working.

and was a little noisy.

Yes Ed,
In all the years as a member on this site, I've never posted a thread, only
responded, because I have never been able to find a "post here" link from
the Home Page, if that's the right name for it.

I always just wrote it off as my own lack of "geekness" .. but now it seems
there is perhaps some structural issue that keeps it from allowing access?

Above my pay grade in any case..

About a month ago.. I bought and installed one of the Black Box dash
cameras we spoke about in a thread.. 4 days ago, while driving the speed
limit down a straight stretch of highway.. I got hit in the rear with
enough force to drive the car 1000 ft forward, across oncoming traffic,
into a block wall all now on video, because the camera was on when ever
the car was running.. Thought I would post a link of the crash, as it
happened, with sound from the built in mic in the camera, just so members
could see it..

The car that hit mine was totaled, mine can be repaired, maybe. The lawyers
and doctors are ecstatic at having it all on video. The police are very
convinced of my version of the event after viewing the video.
I think the camera just paid for it's self.

No joy on being able to post a thread.. Ohhh well. It will keep for now.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Mexicans

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
That is an excellent description that is somewhat similar to what my
niece explained, but more detail of the colonial mindset. I can see
that now.

We were in Costa Rica 3 or 4 years ago, we stayed a night at a nice
little hotel compound not far from the airport as we had an early flight
out the next morning. We were having supper at their dining facility,
out on the patio, and get talking to an older single guy at the table
next to us. He was a USAmerican, had lived in CR for some years, had a
little finca on the east coast with a local family as the all-around
caretakers, etc. He had built them a little house for which they were
most appreciative. At some point he gave them a coupla acres of his 10
or 12, around the house for them to do their garden and animals and
whatnot. No big deal to him, they were still there, the land was still
contiguous, he had plenty enough with the remainder, not that it really
mattered whether it was his or theirs. Anyway, he said these people
were incredibly grateful and would do anything for him, they treated him
almost as a god, which he found a bit uncomfortable but understood that
what he had done was to give them something that they never imagined
could happen. He said that he had put the rest of the place in his will
for them as his kids had no interest in it, so he figured that could
propel them into another stage of land ownership, farming production,
whatever. I had not realized until then that land ownership for many
people, even in CR which is pretty well developed politically,
comparatively, was such a huge deal.

Our guide in Peru was telling us about his parents' farm. We drove
pretty close by when we were on the way from Cusco to where our trek
started, it was in a beautiful area, a valley in the mountains, and he
pointed out to us where it was. It had been in the family for pretty
much forever. His parents had moved to Cusco some years ago as had most
of the family, but they still went back for holidays and vacations. The
thing that distressed him was that there was no title to the land, it
was just "known" to everyone that it belonged to his family as it had
for ever how long. But since they were not living there, the neighbors
had begun to encroach on the property, taking a small field here and
there, and there was not much to be done to stop it without being there
to fight them off. I thought that was quite interesting.

THe OM616/617NA transfer pump (lift pump) is Bosch FP-K22MW2 or ten
digit 2 445 103 010. MB never did provide a kit in the USA, and I
don't now if Bosch ever did. I am thinking in the RTW, that a kit may
be available. has anyone ever seen a kit or have foreign contacts to
inquire about a kit for the pump?

Nothing turns up on fleabay except a pump body.

It filled the
hose to the filter and I bled the air out there, then tightened the
new banjo fitting. I have been hoarding new clear fuel lines since
1999. I put the one from the transfer pump to the filter on with the
used pump. Unfortunately the hand primer leaks when used. THe
original was ok I think.I may change that some day.

Has anyone seen exploded drawings of the pump or parts drawings? I'd
still like to figure out how they are made to see if I can repair the
old ones.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Mexicans

2016-06-07 Thread G Mann via Mercedes
Having spent much of my adult life traveling the world, with significant
portion of that into SA, I'll throw in my 0.02 cents worth.

All countries south of USA, Mexico included, are at their cultural
foundation, based on the Spanish rule model.

That Government model dictates there be an "Al Cald`e" who is all powerful
representing the direct wishes of the King of Spain. All others are
citizens of a lower class who must ask permission for everything.
This cultural pattern is ingrained into the people so deeply, even 3'd and
4'th generation latin americans who have lived in USA and were born here
still are not "self responsible" in a practical sense, compared to other
"Native Born Americans". They still look to leadership for every decision,
rather than the American Citizen idea of "Self Rule".

Couple that with the law form used in all South American countries which is
based on Napoleonic Code rather than British Common Law Code. and you have
a continuation of the idea that "only rulers can made decisions" not
"empowered citizens".

This translates in the SA real world into things like land ownership, for
example.. The ruling class owns land and property.. everyone else works for
them.. generally speaking.. [there have been revolts in Mexico, for
example, which resulted in "private ownership of land" by peons.. but in
general principle.. the ruling class still "rules".

This cultural principle rules South America, while USA is all about the
individual Citizen having Rights.. which can't be infringed..

Well. in theory, at least.. recent regulations excepted.. IRS, EPA, et
al...

I have been using mine too, not a bad little device for the $50 I paid
for it. Mine is plugged into a ciggy port on the Sub, I'm not sure it
is switched or not, it ran down the battery on the vehicle when I was
gone and left it plugged in but turned off. So now I just yank out the
plug.

Did you have yours set up to look backwards? Or just the forward view?
I turned off the sound on mine.

2016-06-07 Thread Joel Cairo via Mercedes
When we did the Machu Picchu tre 13 yr ago our guide was telling us that
the Shining Path were still somewhat active in the mountains but that
the Inca trail we were on was fairly safe. Some years prior the traffic
had dropped considerably as they were around. I guess that was
comforting though being way back in the mountains not too close to
"civilization" was somewhat concerning in that regard. We went at that
time to Puerto Maldonado in the forest, headwaters of the Amazon, and it
was the Wild West out there. They have a road built out there now so it
has become somewhat more "civilized" for what that is worth, but our
guide this time was saying there are some SPs still running around out
there too but they are not much of a factor.

The election is still undecided, this morning the gap was 50k votes out
of millions, they are counting absentees. Both candidates seem like
they would be somewhat similar, though the Fujimori woman has been much
more visible out in the countryside, visiting little towns and people
all over so she is something of a populist. PPK is a bit more of an
elite, but a smart guy, both have US educations and are pretty smart. I
hope it works out for them, they seem to be on the right path.

The storm actually passed offshore, the rain mostly stopped before the

Also, the site https://www.okiebenz.com/ routes to an error page. Maybe the
site doesn't have a proper certificate? The hosting company just gives the
generic "Contact the webmaster" page.

A one-wire Delco typically has a special self-exiting regulator.
Usually this requires at least 2000-3000 RPM (at the alternator) to
"trigger" the self-excitation and start working. 2, or 3 wire will
work at much lower RPM.

I prefer the 3 wire. Set up correctly with the remote voltage
sensing for the regulator connected to the main feedpoint for the
rest of the electrical system, the battery will get properly
changed even if there is a heavy electrical load elsewhere. And
the "idiot" ALT light on the dash is much more accurate than the
ammeter with regard to identifying when the alternator isn't
working right.

I really do like the Delco "si" alternators (10, 12, 15, 17, etc).
'Haven't used one to replace a Bosch yet...
