Not the same on 124 wagon.   3 holes.  3 little plastic anchors in the

Thanks!

I am pleased. Can’t wait to get the rest of the interior sorted, should be done
this week. I need to cut out a piece of Masonite for the parcel shelf, then I
can get the back seat installed, then the windlace and B pillar covers and I’m
done.

Then I’m going to start in on the front suspension and replace the springs and
sway bar bushings.

Re: [MBZ] Trunk emblems

2019-03-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
1.) Open trunk

2.) Lean in and look at interior side of trunk lid behind where trunk tristar
is located, see cutout in metal

3.) With ratchet, extension and 13mm socket, unscrew nut form threaded stud on
back of tristar

4.) remove tristar from trunk lid.

Process is literally the same over many, many model years.

2019-03-17 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes

Congrats!    Glad it worked out.

A running car is better than a garage queen!

Good work!

Be aware!  When judging concours, I found that the underside reveals
much.  Like the gullwing with a really cruddy underside, wrong exhaust
clamps, overspray, etc.  I deducted all the points I could, but it was
still not enough.

Dan Penoff via Mercedes wrote on 3/17/19 9:14 AM:

Just finished up my fuel pump replacement. Here’s the deal:

Jaime was kind enough to refer me to a text he had seen from Pieter Van Rossum,
a W113 guy, where he had replaced the stock “tall” fuel pump with a generic
Carter pump.

I got a Carter pump the same day from the Island of Large Wimmen for $102.00. A
pittance compared to the minimum of $700 or so in the market for rebuilt or
used stock fuel pumps. I spent a fair amount of time yesterday adapting the
mounting and getting the lines and fittings set up. They actually worked out
well, as you’ll see. It was also a good opportunity to replace all of the old
hoses at the tank and pump while I was there. Not fun, but not too bad of a job
despite how much I hate working around gasoline.

Since I had the instrument cluster out of the car for the dash pad replacement,
I couldn’t start the engine yesterday as the oil pressure gauge and capillary
tube for the coolant temperature gauge were both disconnected. I did turn
everything on last night and it ran and made pressure, no leaks. Loud compared
to the stock pump, but hey, for $100 I’ll live with it.

Got the gauges connected this morning and fired it up. Success! I haven’t taken
the car on the road yet, but I suspect it should be fine. More as I know it.

As icing on the cake, as I was collecting all the parts together for the old
pump I found the bulk of the “missing” brush spring. I might be able to reuse
it after bending a new end on the remains of the spring. Woo-hoo!

Here’s a link to a lousy cell phone photo. The return line is hanging in the
foreground with a hose clamp on it:

http://penoff.com/photo_dump.html#0

Carter P4601HP inline electric pump - $102.00
2” PVC rubber coupling - $4.00
3 - Corner braces - $4.00
6 - M5 nuts, washers - $2.00
Miscellaneous hose, clamps, crimp connectors, etc - stock

I’ll have a far more detailed update in my blog probably tonight. I gotta get
back to finishing up the dash….

I'm not sure I 100% believe it. My 2010 Dodge RAM certainly doesn't do as well
with Valvoline as it does with M1. Around 5,000 miles the engine starts to tick
on startup, change the oil, tick goes away. With M1 tick goes away and stays
away. 8,000 miles in now on M1, no tick.
I'd gone with Valvoline because its the only approved oil for Angie's Golf that
you can buy at Autozone but I'm under impressed...I can't use the same
formulation the VW gets, thats 5w40, the RAM wants 5w20...

Find a shady spot. Clay bar only works best when you use the lubricant
spray. Hot sun will dry that up to fast to get the best result.

So it’s about 65° right now but the sun is brutal. This is Arizona after all,

Re: [MBZ] M1 oel deals?

2019-03-17 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

This month's deal at Advance is 5qts of M1, a M1 filter, and a roll of blue
shop towels for $33.
https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/o/mobil-oil

It's a good deal if you have a use for a couple of M1 filters. I put the
filters in my Cruze and a friend's Nissan.

The Spring rebates haven't started yet, but there's a yearlong rebate for $10 a
gallon on Turbo Diesel Truck and Delvac 1. I might check out the 5 gallon pail
prices on D1 at the local oil distributor.

https://mobiloil.com/en/promotion/mobil-promotions/40-off-mobil-delvac

In a gun forum, somebody posted what he thought was a good deal on low
viscosity synthetic at WalMart and a guy from Lyden Oil said "I pay $6 a gallon
for that stuff", so I might pay them a visit next month and see what they'll
sell of 5 gallon pail of Shell or Gulf bulk synthetic for.

2019-03-17 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes

I gotta get

They won’t have a choice once I own the property. Only the County will have a
say on what would go there. It’s zoned as “agricultural land”, so I could graze
cattle there if I wanted. It’s in a flood plain, so that would have to be dealt
with.

I really, really doubt the HOA will go for it - heck, I’m vice president, but I
wouldn’t be able to vote on it if it ever gets to that point.
