Should be enough room to get at the overflow valve, depends on the orientation
of the pump to set the timing.
More likely than not there is a failed O-ring or two. Your approach should
solve that. If it doesn't, then perhaps the fuel filter holder is defective,

Peter,
The fuel heater is actually mounted on the head. Not sure if that’s what you’re

If that lift pump is the same as the one on the earlier 603's, there is a
fitting for the line that seals with an o-ring and is held in place with a snap
ring. The o-ring is shot, but will only leak fuel out if the car is parked
steeply nose down.
Sounds as if the fuel thermostat is in the f

Yeah, fuel from the heater is clear and no bubbles. If they’re coming from
somewhere, it’s the filter assembly or the lift pump. I’m wondering i I should
plan on rebuilding the lift pump while I’m in there?
The fuel heaters on the 606 are quite robust. When I began trying to figure out

the fuel heater develops leaks too. But this case does not sound like that.

If the lines from the pre-heater are clear of air, it's in the suction line
from the tank somewhere.

There is enough room on the ones I have worked on up to OM603. From
what you describe, it seems like you have a leak at the IP, but I don't
know the plumbing on that engine. normally you have a filter in, a
filter out, and a collection point for return lines mounted on top of

Yeah, guys, I know there’s air intrusion. That’s pretty obvious, even to
someone who’s worked on diesels from 5 HP to over 2000 HP. I’m just trying to
figure out from where….

+1, Amen If fuel can get out, air can get in. In fact, air can get

If you are observing air bubbles in the fuel through the clear lines, the
fuel system has air intrusion via some source.
Fuel system must not leak air. If you have a leak at the shut off valve of
fuel, it also leaks air into the system, Air equals loss of fuel, which
starves combustion, thus engin

Not a bad car for $5k, considering the condition, I think. Too bad it’s a 380,

I gotta ask. Why would anyone dump a bunch of money in a 240D?
If it was a low mile survivor, maybe, but this one is not that. There’s that
guy on the W123 FB group with a 30k 240D that’s rellay nice, and I think he’s
asking $12k for it. I can see that, but not that kind of money for this car.
