People are truly lazy.

Think how much better that car would look in the photos if they had
cleaned it.

I bought a boat a couple of years ago that had been sitting outside with
moss and algae growing on it. It looked pretty ratty. I used a pressure
washer and when I was done it looked a whole lot better. It had some
shine to it. I had already bought another newer boat so I sold this one
and got 3X what I paid for it, mostly because it looked so much better.
I had intended to do some work on it but the first fellow who came to
look at it decided he wanted right then and was willing to take it as it
was so I didn't end up doing anything to it apart from washing it. I was
prepared to get it running to prove that it ran but never had to do so.

Last time I asked the guys at my local NAPA about their motor oil, they said it 
was made by Ashland and added "they make Valvolene" as if to imply that their 
oil was basically Valvolene in a generic bottle.

And interestingly enough, I recall someone, perhaps on this list, 
suggesting that it was pretty safe to use house brand products from 
places that sold oil to farmers and heavy equipment operators because 
they sure wouldn't want their good customers to suffer damage to 
expensive big equipment.


I wonder if this was a failure in their testing  process, or if it was a 
deliberate effort to cheapen the product at the expense of quality.

I watch a couple different YouTube channels that specialize in repairing old 
junk. I always joke that the cleaning phase is the one where they make all 
their money.

My neighbor was talking about getting a new lawn tractor. Last spring I changed 
the oil in his for him, he's a good neighbor so I wanted to help him out. While 
I was at it I washed the thing. He just leaves it out in the weather and the 
plastic was all coated with black "stuff". It washed up pretty nice considering 
I only spent a few minutes at it. When I gave it back he couldn't believe it 
was the same mower and quit thinking about a new one.

People are truly lazy.

Think how much better that car would look in the photos if they had 
cleaned it.


I bought a boat a couple of years ago that had been sitting outside with 
moss and algae growing on it. It looked pretty ratty. I used a pressure 
washer and when I was done it looked a whole lot better. It had some 
shine to it. I had already bought another newer boat so I sold this one 
and got 3X what I paid for it, mostly because it looked so much better. 
I had intended to do some work on it but the first fellow who came to 
look at it decided he wanted right then and was willing to take it as it 
was so I didn't end up doing anything to it apart from washing it. I was 
prepared to get it running to prove that it ran but never had to do so.

Massive restoration cost in both shop time and money.. Huge rust issues..
However, it is a coupe... thus would command gigantic price if done

Yeah, the steering wheel doesn’t look too bad. The dash wood looks pretty good, 
as does the windshield surround. There is probably a couple grand in parts 
alone there.

Front left fender looks munched, too bad. Definitely a Chicago car that was 
driven in the winter.
