Apparently there are now kits to put a Hemi 5.7 into lots of applications. Vice Grip Garage put one in a square body Chevy. I wonder if you could put something like a Pentastar v6 into a Jag, it's quite a small engine. Like buttah, baby! Yes, the smoothness of the V12 and chassis was such that it would mess with your head, making you think you were just floating along when you’re really ripping up the pavement. The first time I drove an XJ12 I was on a two lane local street with a 30 mph limit. I didn’t realize that I was doing near 60 mph in the car until the passenger pointed it out. Yeah but the smoothness of the Jag V12 (when it was working) was remarkable, so I'm told. There have been a number of companies out there selling conversion kits to domestic iron, as it’s not terribly difficult to do, since a lot of the older Jags used domestic transmissions. Re: [MBZ] Rescue Mission in Methalachia
Good story. Hope it works out for you. Randy On 04/12/2022 12:25 AM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes wrote: I drove wayy too far today (rather, yesterday now) to rescue this car. It has been sitting for quite some time with the windows partially down but I think it was mostly covered by a tarp as there is not a *lot* of damage. Black/black 01CL600 AMG. I need to run the VIN but it’s legit AMG I think. No key no tittle so I’m not sure what I can do with it as a whole. Didn’t even really look much at it, wrestled organizing and loading it on the trailer for about 3hr in the drizzle as it was slammed and there was a bunch of sh*t up next to it I had to move around, rear tires flat (but held air for awhile). But I got my workout with the cheep cheep HF come-along (I need a winch!) and got it dragged up. It took about an hour of jinking the trailer to get it lined up right, there was NO maneuvering room and I had no spotter. Pro tip: The C215/W220 transmission can be shifted from park by whacking the top of the shifter then pulling it back. And there is no steering lock. That helped immensely. It was way back up in the Jawja woods and hills at end of gravel road then uphill twisty narrow dirt track. Beautiful country but rough. About 70mi north of Alanna. (Atlanta is a traffic nightmare disaster, I hate that place) I had pretty much no room to get the trailer turned around after driving up to the property but managed. The $675ML500 is a beeste, it rides like a log truck and handles like one too but it is very capable albeit with quite a thirst for hi-test (don’t ask). The seats are pretty comfy though. Oh and it had been raining/drizzling so everything was slick red Jawja clay, the AWD is awesome, the Kumho all-weather tires did ok too. It was a bit scary going back down on the narrow slick dirt track with 6200lb pushing the ML but worked out. It was a weird deal, the guy selling it was not there, I guess he was working , his brother was supposedly there but asleep in the doublewide after working all night. I never roused him though I tried, his dog was worked up though. I was thinking I was gonna get shot “stealing” the car but never saw anyone. I was texting the seller so that was ok. He said he got 139 queries on the car, somehow I floated to the top after like 2 weeks of no response then some minimal response on Thursday. I figured I’d get there and see some other guy hauling it off. I left the $$ under the floor mat of a dead SUV that was also there. Interesting transaction. I thought I heard banjo music a coupla times. I’ll look at it closely tomorrow in the good light on the trailer. Body appears to be quite straight and paint decent, might even clean up. No idea about engine, the serp belt was thrown, I need to talk to the guy and see what he knows about the car. (He is a man of few words and quite the drawl). Without a key it’s probably parts but maybe I can track down a tittle somehow, or see if I can get a bootleg key. If parts then the glass, hood, and fenders might go on my CL500. I can probably put some power to the window switches and get those raised and give it a wash. This is why being a Jaguar mechanic in the early 1980s was a very good job. I likened it to being a mortician. No matter how bad things get, you’ll always have work. And yes, those dual chain engines were a real treat to work on. Even the 3.8 and 4.2 sixes were not pleasant to do. -D > On Dec 5, 2022, at 11:30 AM, G Mann via Mercedes > wrote: > > If it is true to form for a V12 Jag... each head has a seized exhaust > valve, so you would have to pull BOTH heads... and you need to pull the > engine because the only way to pull the heads is to use a head press tool > to jack the heads off the studs.. don't forget the cam drive chains [two > sets] down the front of the engine... > On the other hand, you will become world class in your ability to cuss.. > > On Mon, Dec 5, 2022 at 9:24 AM G Mann wrote: > >> 1. If it is true to form for a V12 Jag... each head has a seized exhaust valve, so you would have to pull BOTH heads... and you need to pull the engine because the only way to pull the heads is to use a head press tool to jack the heads off the studs.. don't forget the cam drive chains [two sets] down the front of the engine... Apparently the porch had cedar shakes and as they got soft a racoon started making it's home in the porch through the soft shakes. The previous occupant got his brother (the home owner) to put a tin roof on the porch. The asphalt on the house is adequate for now, at some point I'll have a tin roof put on.
