The battery voltage was low for a day or two when I first put it in, but then
it came back up to 13-14 with the engine running. Annoying this would happen.
I wonder if the Jeep is eating batteries. History of Jeep batteries. Factory
original from 2001-2006. Changed preemtively to a Yellow
Well AutoZone says battery and charging system tested OK but agreed the battery
stunk and was hot. It was sizzling (noise) before I went into the store. I'll
see what happens. I never noticed over voltage problems with the Jeep.

This is the first sizzling stinking battery I've seen but the second yellow top
that has died. The last one was 9-12 months ago, also in the Jeep. That one
gave no indications or advance warning. It just wouldn't start after I came
out of a restaurant. It was very difficult to jump
I'd just pull the drain plugs. They have drain pan catches the size of large
garbage can lids that help keep the floor clean and work real well for coolant
also.

diff wss dirty it will need to be changed repeatedly before it stays honey
colored for any length of time. There are plenty of good used diffs.
The OVP can cause intermittant problems. They were revised half a dozen or
more times over the years.

Maybe use a screwdriver to push the lip out of place. Alex may be
right, the door panel may need to be removed to move the wires to get
enough slack. Just use some new wire and some crimp butt joints to
repair.

Some of the rebuilds fail very shortly after installation or are dead
out of the box. However, used compressors can be a bad deal and fail
shortly as well. Similar to a sitting water pump - if it ain't been
used in a while, the chance of failure after its put into service
seems to jump
There is a little clip on the end, side nearest the radiator. Very
easy to change. If you plan to service it, I suggest a new O-ring as
it may leak if disturbed.
