Non-competes are notoriously difficult to enforce. I had one at Kohler, and at first refused to sign. My attorney looked at it, laughed, and told me to sign it. I know of a few occasions where they invoked it, one with a guy I used to work with that tried to go to Generac after he left Kohler.
