My salvage guy gave me a copy of the form you need to send in to upgrade the title. The 'licensed inspector' in this case is anybody willing to put his mechanic's license number and signature on the form. If my Cruze had been on a salvage title, I would have made my body shop manager sign it after he straightens my framwork next week. As it turns out, the lower cradle and all the vital stuff is straight, so he just needs to realign the radiator support, bumper support, inner fenders etc to make the cosmetic stuff hang straight. I got off lucky on that part. Around $300 for half a day's labor on the frame machine, a new front clip, and my car will be good as new, except for the blown air bags and minor dents on the left side of the car. The air bags and seat belts will not come cheap, almost makes me wish I'd bought a 2015 Cruze instead of a 2017. A half dozen 2015 air bags would cost me about $400. I'll be paying at least $500 for the two roof bags and the steering wheel bag is really hard to find used. Re: [MBZ] Cheap MLs
I don't think so. You might be confusing this with a rebuilt title. Some states require that a car with a salvage title be inspected and it's roadworthiness be attested to by a state or licensed inspector. Then it gets a "rebuilt" or "reconstructed" title. Other states don't make the distinction and you can just register a car with a salvage title. Florida does this. As for insurance, that is up to the insurance company. I've had both salvage and rebuilt titles cars insured without question in the past. -D > On Sep 1, 2017, at 3:10 PM, Larry Turner via Mercedes> wrote: > > Is it true that in most states you cannot insure a car with a salvage title? > LarryT > ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Selecting 'no license required' on the search page makes 80% of the search results go away. If I were you, I'd search for brand, MBZ, ownership document type, clean title, and then sort by zip code to put the nearest cars first. There's an online bid fee, adding $29-79 to the price when you win, if your winning bid was placed online and not at the in-store kiosk before the auction starts. I try to bid at least 80% of my limit at the kiosk when I'm in the yard looking at the cars. I put my $975 limit on the ML350 at the kiosk and then went home and watched the system proxy bid me in the sale, I got it for $750. Lots of other fees too. Fees are higher for non-licensed buyers, and they charge you an extra $50 for title processing if you're unlicensed. Once a car hits about $4k, it's cheaper to pay my dealer $300 to buy it for me, even if unlicensed bidders are allowed. And dealers get hit with annual membership fees, there's no membership fee for unlicensed bidders. https://www.copart.com/memberFees My ML was open auction, my Cruze was dealer only auction, but at $5800 I would have bid the Cruze as a dealer anyway to pay a $425 buyer fee instead of a 15% fee. There was a really sweet Cruze in Denver today, same color as mine, 11k more miles than mine, fewer options than mine, but practically no damage. I figure it's worth 2-3k more than mine. The thing sold for $10,100.
