I'm thinking too there might have been some significant differences in 
the intimate cultural exchanges (and methods thereof) you both had on 
your disparate jobs.

Rule#1: Never volunteer for duty in a country with a name that ends in
stan. They are all garden tour destinations.

If adrenaline is your drug, live in a foreign country while doing
clandestine work with only the cloth on your back for a support team. I
can't imagine why they might divorce.. ha.

From what I could gather from the boy, when not processing 
applications in the embassy or whatever, he was out in the bush going 
native, and had Mr. Glock (or one of his friends) as a partner, but 
other than that, yeah, he was pretty much on his own and kinda enjoyed 
his intimate cultural exchanges with the natives and others with whom he 
might or might not have come into close contact.

I think you may have Shah of Iran confused with Saddam of Iraq Once
Shah was deposed, he left to live in exile [then died].. Saddam is a
different chronology, different country...

A close friend of mine is an Army brat, and her dad was a spook that was 
attached to the embassy in Tehran before things went south.  She attended 
elementary school there.  Said it was a really wonderful place under the Shah.

So the Iranians run out the shah and the US decides that's a bad deal so we set 
him back up, he then basically goes on a killing spree and we wonder why they 
don't like us...

The best thing we could do to the middle east is leave the whole dang place 
alone. They don't like us and EVERYTHING we do there turns to crap, but 
no,we've got this hero complex, we're going to fix it all you just wait...
