If you take the belly pan off can you reach up with a long extension and just
undo the bolts that hold the grill in place? IIRC there are 4 or 6 small
bolts...

Curt, this is a 124 car, that won't work. Grill is bolted to the front facing
part of the hood, not the top surface. No way to remove the grill without
breaking it.

I would grab the plastic with a pliers and twist and lever to break of small
chunks to avoid risking damage to the condenser. Gradually chew through, don't
try to get it all done at once.

grill, rather than pliers.
If you have some with long handles so you have better leverage, even
better. You should be able to go around the entire grill edge rather
quickly and remove it cleanly.
