O Pardon me... I must have tapped into my "Compassion Challenged with Political Correct" side... Use "side cutters" to clip the grill out of the grill surround... I have a problem expressing myself in the omni-sexual culture we have these days... Just last Christmas I got a Rolex from my Lesbian neighbors... When they had ask me what I wanted for Christmas and I said "I wanna watch" ... I guess I didn't communicate well... ;)) On Sat, Jul 25, 2015 at 12:13 PM, Curt Raymond via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Grant, we have to be inclusive these days. I need to correct that. On the later 124 cars, what I said is correct, but on the 1st generation, it _just_ may be possible to remove the chrome surround from the side and from below. However, it is not a straight shot from below, so you'd be working more or less blind. I've got an '87 and a '95, both have differences from Larry's car, a 1990. I think he may have a shot after looking at my '87, but I called him a few minutes ago and tried to describe what I was looking at. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Jul 25, 2015 at 1:20 PM, Max Dillon wrote: > Curt, this is a 124 car, that won't work. I was also going to comment on that, and the prevalence of the term "tranny" which is extremely offensive. Re: [MBZ] Grill Removal - Unable to Open hood -- W124 '91 300D
I would suggest the use of a pair of dyke cutters to clip the edges of the grill, rather than pliers. If you have some with long handles so you have better leverage, even better. You should be able to go around the entire grill edge rather quickly and remove it cleanly. Just a thought.. hope it works for you. Grant... Curt, this is a 124 car, that won't work. Grill is bolted to the front facing part of the hood, not the top surface. No way to remove the grill without breaking it. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 On July 25, 2015 12:00:34 PM EDT, Curt Raymond via Mercedes wrote: >If you take the belly pan off can you reach up with a long extension >and just undo the bolts that hold the grill in place? If you take the belly pan off can you reach up with a long extension and just undo the bolts that hold the grill in place? I bought a used Grill Shell w/Insert so I can break up the original one and hopefully get the hood latch to release. There's a pair of fans for the AC condenser but it looks like there's enough room to work with. So i am wondering if there's any creative ways to break open the grill element? I think I can get the chrome surround off once the insert is opened up and then will have enough room to reach the latch & release it.
