While we're on the subject of Self-Cured Success Stories, I have had
intractable gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) for several years now.
It manifests itself and awakens me ONLY in the middle of the night.
Occasionally, if I eat 6-8 hours before bedtime, I can sleep through the
night. I have tried ALL the obvious remedies (Pepcid, ranox, Prilosec,
etc.) to no avail. If I get out of bed and take two Rolaids that usually
calms things down, and after 20 minutes and I usually return to sleep, but
this does not work as a preventative. There has to be something I can do
take before I go to bed that will defeat the GERD. Perhaps a herbal remedy?

Anyway, if anyone has experienced this I'd like to hear about it.

Mercedes content: I sometimes fantasize about restoring my 378k mile 300TD
when trying to fall back asleep.

lowes or home despot (Lektrick dept) has the 5' sections of fish rod for
electricians, usually 2 or 3 sections per unit.   You can hook as many
as needed together, but 3 or 4 is generally about all you can manage.
You FL elektrick supply  (FLES) also has them

The fish rods I have are each 6ft long, and thread together to
make it longer as needed. The snow markers could be really handy
for short pulls, but I also think they would be too stiff. The
fish rods bend. My 3/16 or so diameter ones work fine with a bend
radius of at least 1.5 ft [50 cm]. Maybe a little less.

MY 240D either never had one or it was long lost when the car came to
me.  I have a white plastic vacuum control valve on top of the valve
cover for the vacuum to the trans.  I got a new VCV when Q was still in
business, maybe 15 years ago.  When it crapped out, I bought a 1/8 NPT
brass needle valve and a couple of 1/8" hose barbs.   I replaced the VCV
with this.  It took a while to get it adjusted to work ok with a worn
out trans, but I was able to limit the slipping on shifts better than
the vcv did.

I had a "new" windshield put in .. But when my installer pulled the old one out
,there was heavy rust on the lower right jamb .  He allowed me to go over and
treat it with 2 coats of Miracle Paint.  Then he sealed it and used my Mercedes
OEM windshield seal that I supplied..  Voila !!  Problem solved..A few
years back I did the same thing with the Mercedes OEM seal and it leaked again
due to that rust spot not being treated & not aware of it.   BTW   I had a
problem with water on passenger side due to a squirrel placing a walnut for
storage on the drain hole right under the battery tray years ago .It's a new
habit to check that area every winter

I did it the hard way on my old 123.190; I pulled off the entire rear axle

Two hard days of brutal work, but a brand-new suspension when I was done.
I had access to a nice lift on base for that job.

I did it - a lot of years ago. I got the used arm from Atlanta
Stuttgart - which will give a clue as to how long ago it was.

I don't have any notes - but my memory is it wasn't difficult.
Possibly easier than replacing a rear wheel bearing.

[MBZ] Subject: Re !123 Rear Semi-Trailing arm

2018-07-05 Thread Rdeafboy via Mercedes
My 1983 240D had the rear passenger side Biltstein shock  broke through the
trailing arm where it rusted/broke out.  The spring is still intact in the arm
.  it caused the arm to bump into the outside axle rubber boot & spring a
grease leak . I put in new axles 2-3 years ago .  I have another rubber boot
but i know you need that tool.  I have to put it on the lift to see the boot
tear yet .   How hard is this to put a used trailing arm in anybody done it
..Appreciate your answers on this .

Re: [MBZ] Subject: Dollar Tree Wheel Cleaner

2018-05-20 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Good to know…

I gave it a try at full strength on the 400E wheels and I will say that it
removed a considerable amount of crud. That being said, I also noticed the
finish was coming off in those same areas, but that could very well be a result
of the crud having been there for an extended period of time and the finish
below it being compromised.

It didn’t seem to affect the rest of the finish, so I’m betting that’s the case.

There was still some wheel dust residue in a few places, but for the most of it
the stuff did seem to do the job. I’ll continue to use and monitor it and
report back if I find anything amiss.

Well so much for the official word from spermatex.  Soaked over 12 hours
in isopropyl alcohol.  no softening at all.  The $hit is bad on cast

All of my recent group 49 batteries have vent tubes. I've never had a problem
with rusted trays. The AGM batteries have vent tubes too.
About 2 months ago I bought an AGM from Advance Auto which was made in Korea
and cost about $180. I didn't bother with the discount since I was in a hurry.
We'll see how it holds up.

By coincidence there is a battery discussion going on at PTS (Prius Technical
Stuff). Here is one members experience with AGM batteries:

"I bought a battery from the Toyota dealership 2 years ago for almost $300

the 49 batteries are supposed to have a vent with a tube. I think only
once, I got the tube when I bought a battery. But most og the group 49
batteries did have the vent constucted to put a tube on so the acid/gas
can be conducted away from sheet metal.

To me the AGM batteries were not worth the $$$. Kinda like the other
stuff filipino boys put on the rice burners: Mushroom air cleaners,
neon lights under the car, coffee cans over the exhaust, jacking up one
end or the other with air bags, etc.

That adds up in a hurry, and it's what a sealed battery is supposed to

Well - put in a new one and see if it's fixed? *smiles*

The battery and the starter are a system. Either one can cause
very similar symptoms.

A failing starter will draw more current. So a DC ammeter that
can read more than 500 A can be used. My note, which are not as
clear as I would like, suggest that the starter for my OM616 with
a good battery and warm weather would draw about 250 A. Not clear
is if this was a bench test...

If the battery is good, turn on the interior light and watch it
when cranking. It should dim, but not go out - or nearly out.

A weak battery or a failing starter will cause the light to go
out, or practically go out.

A bad cable or connection will cause the light to dim very little.

Or a volt meter, measuring the voltage drop along the
battery-starter cable. This is most effective if you have a
known-good reading to compare. I'm not finding my notes on what I
found to be "normal"...

Re: [MBZ] Subject: Re: Secret message for Randy

2017-12-29 Thread archer75--- via Mercedes
Results

Briefly: Being over 70, the complication rate for your GF's mom would roughly
be 7.6% which is very low. Surprisingly the complication rate for someone less
than 70 years would roughly be twice as much (15.1%).

Among 574 patients with a permanent pacemaker, 259 patients (45.1%) were below
and 315 patients (54.9%) were above or at 70 years of age. There were 240
(92.7%) and 19 (7.3%) dual-chamber pacemaker (DDD) and single-chamber pacemaker
(VVI) implanted patients in the younger group, and 291 (76.8%) and 73 (23.2%)
DDD and VVI pacemaker implanted patients in the elderly group, respectively.
The complication rate was 39 (15.1%) out of 259 young patients and 24 (7.6%)
out of 315 elderly patients. Postprocedural complications were statistically
lower in the elderly patients than in younger patients (P = 0.005).

Conclusion

A pacemaker implantation performed by an experienced operator is a safe
procedure for patients of advanced age. The patients who are above 70 years old
may have less complication rates than the younger patients.

2017-12-28 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Well, for an anecdotal story on the other side, I was inoculated with the
flu vaccine and many many others during my military career. I rarely get
sick with anything. I don't know that an annual flu vaccine has made a
positive difference in my case, but they sure haven't hurt me. Before I
started getting all the military vaccines (high school and college) I was
also very rarely sick.

Vitamin D: In our area for my family, vitamin D levels are routinely
included in blood panels, but I do agree that 'Merican medicine focuses too
much on treatment with pharma rather than preventive medicine and healthy
living. Latest and greatest pharma seems to be what many doc's know about
and prescribe, but knowing a good pharmacist and understanding other
medicines that are cheaper and usually just as effective can help a lot.
In one case, a doc declined to even take the time to look up a medicine
that SWMBO knew of from living in Italy, so she borrowed the drug reference
book from the nurses station, looked it up herself, and then went back to
the Doc and showed him what she wanted. He relented but was mighty upset
that his patient knew more than he and stood up to him, needless to say we
switched docs after that episode.

ListersI have NOT gotten the flu shot . Same as my sister .  we have not
gotten sick either ..  The key is Vitamin  D...I take 5,000 to 7,000 units a
day with two/three Vitamin K2 also . The K2[Walmart]  keeps the calcium/D from
assimilating in the arteries...Even when I was in the hospital for my stroke
,they tried to make me take the flu shot- refused !   I know 2 people that got
the flu shots last year and were deathly sick for 7 days..Look up Dr
Mercola's site and delve into Vitamin D /flu shotsBTW   If you keep your
Vit D level above 30  you really can't get cancerDoctors have no clue about
Vit D ...During the warm months I get my sunlight for the "D".here in PA I
take the D supplement from Nov til March/April .  It's hard to get a doctor to
do a Vit D level test since they are brainwashed by your friendly Pharma .
The test is 25-HydroxyvitaminD or 25[OH]D .    My D level was 98- high because
I spend time outdoors at the shorehouse in Ocean City,NJ  from April til
Oct..FYI   if you spend 20 minutes with skin exposed to sunlight ...you
receive 10,000 units of D ...it's that simple. at 67 7/8 yrs old,I must be
doing something right since I'm playing full court serious basketball with guys
30,40,50 & 60 yrs old !! [2 @ 73]

I am trying you get antique insurance for my 82 since I just put antique

I stored my 1969 Austin America for 30 years at my apt parking spot
with a

car cover when not in use[ with a waterproof tarp over the car cover]. I
said I had a garage [ I lied !] but I can always say I store it at my
brother's garage..They just want their money & usually don't follow
up. My
insurance is with Grundy for $111 per year.I drive whenever I want
but the
limit is 2500 miles per year . Im lucky if i put 600 + miles a year on
since

I drive locally & to car shows.

And getting the voting age lowered to 18.

The current crop are spoiled brats who think they have to have a private
400 sq ft or larger room in the dorm in place of sharing a rack. These
are the spawn of the helicopter moms and "everybody gets a trophy"
competitive sports. Unless they come from a farm, or their parents
did, they have never had a job, never been responsible for anything.

Its no wonder they are willing to lay back with their an-i-fone and let
share E a take over. Now IF you want them to rise up, shut off their
fones and tell em share-E-a did it!
