No, the screen in a wagon or the older models (with bottom drain) is
not attached to a hose. Just unscrew the plug and the screen comes
out with it. Simple. The fuel pickup is inside the tank and it stays
put. These all have the tank between the frame rails ahead of the
bumper.

Siphon out most of what's left from the gauge sender hole. That
much less to have running down your arm when you pull the hose off.

Doesn't a hose assembly come off that fitting? It is all one assembly
that screws into the filter, but it connects to the fuel line up the way
a bit.

Maybe on the inside of the tank, but I doubt it. How do I attach a photo?

No. I mis-spoke when I said hose.

OK start at the other end and follow the fuel line back from the engine
to the tank. At some point there will be a rubber hose attached to the
hard fuel line, which will then go into the tank via a fitting at the
bottom of the strainer filter. Or as someone mentioned, take the return
line

that i will need to disconnect in order to R/R the filter. Or maybe not.

Great idea! Now where EXACTLY is the return line hose you're referring
to?

We couldn't get a wrench of any sort on it a year ago - 240D euro.
My son drove it off using impact chisel which didn't damage the screen too much.
I have the correct tool - 22mm Allen wrench.

When I did mine, I siphoned the fuel out the level sender hole.
When I unscrewed the screen there was not much left to dribble
out.
