Re: [MBZ] fuel shutoff solenoid
You just have to be really careful about hooking the lever that projects out of it onto the internal injection pump linkage. Do it wrong and the pump ends up at WOT. Not a pleasant thing. Once you insert the lever, pull back on the whole assembly gently to determine that it's hooked. At least this is what I recall about replacing them. Dan Yes, what dan said. There are instructions posted online. Have a set of vicegrips handy to pinch off the fuel line when you start the engine after the change, just in case the engine tries to run away. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
Re: [MBZ] fuel shutoff solenoid
It’s a pretty common failure so I’m sure there are others here who have done it more recently than I. That’s the part I recall about it that was tricky. You did order the gasket for the back plate of the ip didn't you? You have to remove the back plate to swap out the valve on those. Thanks Dan Good to know. Won't have part for a few days so lots of time to think about it. Been wondering if I will wear out the hood latch cable since I open the hood so often. [MBZ] fuel shutoff solenoid
Finally had a look at my 115 300D to see why I have to open the hood and push on the stop lever all of the time. Appears that the vacuum shutoff doodad on the end of the injection pump has died of old age. Put the hand vacuum pump on it directly and it did not appear to work at all. Ordered a new one last night. Darned things are expensive. It has been good to me so far. In 10 years of ownership I have done little apart from change the oil. My recent change of the brake master cylinder is the only real expenditure on parts that I have had in a long while so I cannot complain too much. The car is essentially 40 years old.
