Hi Loren,
Agree with everything you said. My 78 240D starts instantly in all

Perhaps the connections where the lines that go to the AT cooler are loose?
They connect at the engine/tranny. Also, the dipstick tube attaches to the

autozone sells a set of large allen sockets - 12, 14 and 16mm, IIRC.
They're $10 for the set. the 14mm one fits the rear diff and the manual
gearbox drain plugs. the 12mm one fits the manual transmission drain plug
on a classic Saab 900. Worth their weight in silver.

Auto boxes have a parking engagement device, however I STRONGLY
recommend that everyone get in the habit of using the hand brake, even
on flat ground.

For those that do not know, I am on the prairies. A friend once said one could
tell I did not originate here as I
set the parking brake when I got out of the car. He said true flatlanders never

Check the stop lamp bulbs first, replace if old (tungsten on the bulb
insides). The CC grounds via the stop lamp bulbs, so it disengages
when there is 12 V on the filaments (while stopping). A bad filament
or too much resistance (thin filament) can keep the CC from working.
However, if it

You obviously have not been paying attention have you, the problem is
that the oil pump takes a few seconds to prime and during this time
there is no oil circulating. If you leave the car overnight more oil
will drain off the internals and leave them exposed to harsh metal on
metal action.

I just checked prices on styrofoam (like) sheet insulation in 4'x8' - Home
Depot has it for $9-$10 each. Once my new metal 3 car garage is done I;ll
start installing them (once I buy them) ;-) and I hear they are *very*
effective. Will insulate the ceiling and walls.
The foam sheets are
I was always warned not to use parking brake (non-MB) in the winter as the
cable would often freeze up?
On a manual trans was always told 1st or preferably reverse.
A friend's wife rushed into grocery a few years back and absentmindedly
forgot to put the car in gear or engage the parking brake.
Thx - I;ll buy a set! ;-)but for now I use the Hazet tool Fred kindly
loaned me.
Thanks for the tip!!

I'll check the bulbs - it dropped out maybe once or twice a month - but
yesterday it stopped completely and did not re-engage.
Hopefully it's not the amp. The operating stalk is like new. no play at
all. Hopefully new bulbs will help - I have a supply of Osram - I believe
